Ln65 extended shackles
hello there i have purchased extended shackles for an ln65 lux , they are 210 pin to pin just wondering how much lift that would provide over standard , also looking at some springs from an early runner for the rear.. anyone gone this big before i know its pretty long compared to the standard ones. just a ballpark figure would be good , even a rule of thumb to do with length of shackle to amount of lift or such so i could do some calculations roughly.
Beep. Beep. Beep.. Whats that sound? Oh Look Its Just Another ZD30 On A Tow Truck.. =)
What torque? Tighten it till it strips and then back it off half a turn.

thanks for the input , i didnt want to go try and fit them to be dissapointed hence why i am sussing the ifs rears just have to work out something with the front

Ifs rears refers to certain model IFS hilux rear leaf springs , IE hilux with shitty front suspension and leafs in the rear (no offence ifs owners) the leafs in the rear of these cars are longer and more desireable for that reason
simmo you say rears up front , do you mean ifs rears up front? i have heard there would be major steering mods required here... please elaborate on your comments if you will im all ears

Re: Ln65 extended shackles
Very generally speaking, lift equals half of extension of shackle over standard. So 2" longer than standard shackles (pin to pin) should give 1" of lift.IN24BZ wrote:even a rule of thumb to do with length of shackle to amount of lift or such so i could do some calculations roughly.
Talking shackle angle im running snake extended shackles with the greaseable pins with 2in over EFS leafs in my 60 and the shackles sit nearly vertical with these springs ...
What is a good shackle angle and how much effect dose it have on the ride as mine rides good and corners well tho the springs feel fairly hard tho they flex ok for a leaf set up ...

with shackles the reason most people use them is to get more droop in the suspension so a 45 degree angle is the way to go and ifs springs in the rear usually give you that but you do compromise on road driving a little.
and rears up front is your standard rear springs moved up front theyre only a few inch longer and work good for shackle angle also, but i dont know what mods you have to do to fit them.

having 45 deg also requires less down force to get the spring to flex and tuck up into the guard easier.4RUNNER_01 wrote:with shackles the reason most people use them is to get more droop in the suspension so a 45 degree angle is the way to go and ifs springs in the rear usually give you that but you do compromise on road driving a little.

vertical shakles can sometimes invert when the suspension dropps then regains pressure, but mainly if you have quite curved springs.
RUF conversions shift the diff, how far depends a bit on how you set it up. anywhere from 20mm to 50mm, it requires longer shackles, adjustable torque rod and adjustable drag link if your doing the dodgy half arsed version , plus some big drill bits to drill your spring perchs bit ideally you go full cross over steering set up.
one of the benefits of the ruf is that it gives better clearance at the rear of the wheel arch for bigger tyres without rubbing.

I dont have a pic to show rear travel but i have just got reset LN106 springs in my solid front axel surf and with factory shakels im only around 20cm these springs are a bit to hard and i will get more if i take a leaf out im interested in finding out what you end up doing and how much travel you get or want to get
also i dont know much about this but you can get folding shackels which give you more travel but again i dont know much about only the are out there
