Small injector pump leak

Post by DAT MAN »

Hi I just completed a petrol to diesel conversion to my 92 GQ shorty
My problem is I noticed a leak coming from the top cap of the injector pump witch I have to fix to get my defect cleared.

My question is can I remove the top cap and just replace the seal or is it like pandoras box in there, The engine is out of a 88 GQ it's only done 185000 and runs perfectly I normaly woulden't worrie about it but the blue slip guy said he can't clear it till the leak is fixed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks chris

gday mate,

You could go and get a seal and do it yourself but its a pain in the backside. Your better off getting a pro to do it. Take the pump off and take it somewhere. But dont let them rebuild the whole thing cause it will cost you a fair bit.

Hope this helps.

You dont need to take the pump off to fix the leak but you probly shouldnt attempt this yourself as fucking it up will cost you big.

Mine leaked from here also. The two seals I replaced while it was off are worth a total of $10. That was for the top cover seal and the throttle shaft seal.

When you get the cover undone it is held down by the governor spring. This can be a prick to get off and on.

Cool thanks mate I'm going to give it a go if it's only a spring then it should be right.

I think that was all that was under it. It was 5yrs ago we did it. make sure you give the engine bay a good pressure wash first.
