ARB Side Rails bent.

Had a slight altercation with a log on Deep Creek 2 yesterday and managed to bend the section of bar on the side rails that runs from the end of the step to the bull bar. Its only been pushed back about an inch but it means the door wont open properley so I need to get a new section of bar to go there. ARB wont sell the piece on its own, you have to buy 2 complete side rails and steps. Well I'm not up for spending a grand to replace a 4 foot long section of steel tubing. Anyone got any ideas or know of someone who wants to flog off a RHS one or just the front section of tubing. You can see the actual front section slide onto the step piece its not all one continuous bar. Any ideas?

have you tried pulling back into place using a tow rope and a tree i would do that first

hey mate,

The arb bars are quite common to bend, so im not surprised..

What alot of guys have done, has put in another bracing channel. Sandy from aus4wd has done a number of them and its alot cheaper and stronger than going back to ARB.

I've been with a mate when he bent his right into the panel. just ran the winch out to the side off a block, and pulled it back out. Was good as new.

MIne has bent the other way not sideways towards vehicle but front to back of vehicle on the vrtical section. That has then pulled up the front of the step section. A mate of mine has workshop with a 50 ton press, we are going to see what we can do with that tonight.

You could take it of and straighten it the best you can, then just laminate it with thicker wall Tube, and put another leg in it as previously mention

By laminate it I guess you mean put a larger diameter piece of tubing like a sleeve over where its actually bent to reinforce the weak spot, that sounds a good idea and shouldnt be too dificult. What's the'leg' you talk of putting in.

arb weak as piss wat do u expect

pretty sure a few guys do rock sliders on here for about 550 600

thats what i was saying..

sandy put another leg in and makes them alot stronger you dont need to resleave them just needs more bracing.

They build what the punters want. Something that offers some protection without looking like a jungle gym.
But really there not going to be real strong in there design. Thats a fair bit of unbraced steel hanging out there.
I am wondering where Aus4wd put there extra brace. As unless it goes back to the chassi somewhere. Its still going to flex into the panel.

I wonder about where the other leg as everyone keeps referring to it would go. Its not likely to stop bending where mine has bent I wouldnt think. I am still waiting on my mate to get back to me about using his 5 ton press to straighten this out and use his forklift the push down on step when I have the bolts undone.

All fixed now, disconnected the front section and used the press to straighten it. It pushed the tube a bit flat so turned it on its side as well and pressed that too so now the straightened section is a bit square but its only over about 4" of the length of the front bar. Backed off the one poxy securing bolt that holds the step section to the chassis and pushed it back down as low as it should be and did the bolt back up. Reattached the front section of rail and its as straight as it was before and the step is back to where it should be. Job done. Big thankyou to mate Brian and an extra big NO THANKS to ARB for their extremely poor efforts. No one can believe you cant buy that one section of bar as a separate part as thats what it is it completely disassembles from the step with one bolt. Considering they bend them up using precision equipment, to say they can only make them in matched sets and sell you both sides as a set is absolute rubbish.
