SAS 4RUNNER BODY SWAPPING 1987 IFS TO 1986 SOLID

Post by smuggler »

HERE IS WHAT I HAVE:
1987 LN61 IFS 4RUNNER SURF (2LT 2.4L TURBO DIESEL), 5SPEED MANUAL
Image
1986 YN60 SOLID AXELL 4RUNNER (4Y 2.2L PETROL), 5SPEED MANUAL
Image

THIS IS A BODY SWAP ONLY!!!

THE BLACK BODY WILL GO ONTO THE RED CARS CHASSIS USING RED CARS SAS AND RUNNING GEAR.

here is the story:
I have passed the oppertunity to do a similar swap in the past and strongly regreted it. Got this red YN60 for a cheap price but realy rushed into it. All I keep thinking is that they have this in common

BOTH 4RUNNERS
ONLY MONTHS APART IN AGE
SAME BODY SHAPE

Other plus is that the red YN60 has engineering certificate and all brandname bits like lovelle/efs springs, rancho 5000 shocks, bf goodrich 33' muddies 90%, extractors and bigger carb.. All of these parts are well used but GREAT for the price I paid. THATS WITHOUT MENTION GETTING SOLID AXLE for quater of the price people have paid to cut IFS then convert.

another thort is that using a chassis that toyota has produced will be less risk than trusting someones welding and swaping lots of parts. Then there is the trouble getting it all enginered.

I DONT WANT MY TRUCK OFF THE ROAD FOR WEEKS==>MONTHS==>YEARS

QUESTIONS:
1) ANYONE THIK THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE AND WHY?
2) ANY TIPS?
3) ANY COMMENTS/THORTS?

This is purely a guess.. But I would say that both bodies are identical. I reckon the only difference between the two is the chassis being IFS / Solid axle and the running gear of course..

You may not need it engineered, a roadworthy for sure but I'm not familiar with other states requirements..
I'm thinking that you won't need it engineered as you won't changing the characteristics of the vehicle at all..

I'm gonna do a 7M-GE conversion and I have a statement of requirements from Transport SA which states I don't need engineering for compliance! But that's in SA..

That's my 2c anyway

The bodies are the same
the only thing to keep in mind is that you will need to change all the feul system over and the wiring to the dash cluster
other than that it should be a simple thing to do
just make sure you get all the bolts its the little things that will give you the most problems
like dont forget the hand brake cable and the front bar
