94 Sierra Front Wheel Bearings

Post by foonji »

Recently I took my sierra to get a RWC so i can transfer it from SA to QLD and it came back with a fail... the mechanic was on crack and I lost $60...

Among the petty little things he said about it, he said the front wheel bearings have to be done... I've jacked it up and there is no vertical/horizontal play in the wheels, and no odd noises made when they are spun...

Is there anything else I should be checking for? or is this mechanic pulling my leg and trying to make an easy $ off me?... Even if they are buggered I've got spare ones and would chuck them in myself.

Did he mention anything else apart from the wheel bearings? should have given a report to you at least, if not call and ask for him to send you one.
You can always take it somewhere else for a second opinion or just put in your spares and take it back.

My father picked it up for me, so i didn't get to talk to him.

All the report says is "Both Front Wheel Bearing Play"

I am going to take it elsewhere though.

If the report just relates to play, not noise or " roughness" you should just be able to tighten the bearing retaining nuts on each side....
