they were in the early 75s that had the 2h diesel motor. you can also use the 60s boxes however i chose to stay away from them as they have a heap of vacume hoses on them. i have some picks on my build up thread if that helps.Mulcahy wrote:what model did the h55f come out of

Its the same box. H55F is in 75s and 60s. Just some of the later model 60s had the vacuum operated transfer.AZZA'S HJ47 wrote:they were in the early 75s that had the 2h diesel motor. you can also use the 60s boxes however i chose to stay away from them as they have a heap of vacume hoses on them. i have some picks on my build up thread if that helps.Mulcahy wrote:what model did the h55f come out of

You'll need to figure out a way to put handbrake at the rear wheels as you cant use your 47 transfer handbrake on the back of the 60/75 transfer as far as I could see when I swapped mine. And as said, shorter tailshaft and longer front prop shaft. Possibly re-locating of the crossmember on the chassis behind the transfer too.
Re: Best 5 speed for hj47
you probably have the old single piece trannsfer case yes? IF so, time to trash that out and use the later split transfer as found on late model 40 boxes and all the 60 boxes.Mulcahy wrote:i was wondering what the best 5 speed there is to replace my 4 speed and what else i will have to change

the BEST 5 speed is to find one from a FJ40 with factory 5 speed. or hj47 factory 5 speed ( either 6cyl petrol or 6cyl diesel models)
the top shift plate will be in the correct position
also get the late model crossmember and brackets that go with it.
for the handbrake, you can swap the rear diff with one from a late model 40, 42, 43, 45, 47 which has the handbrake on the rear, OR you can find and shoehorn a handbrake drum( including the housing and output shaft) from a late model 45 ute tha t has a 4 speed, split transfer AND transfer mounted handbrake
