TD42 Prefilters & Snorkels
TD42 Prefilters & Snorkels
I'm fitting a snorkle to my TD42 turbo Mav and I'm debating wether to ditch the prefilter housing and just run tubing in its place or should I keep the prefilter?
Also this is my tourer, should I go with a Safari snorkle (Easy to get a hold of most places if I bust it. Or go with a tubular snorkle with rubber bends (Better flow)?
Thoughts?
Cheers

Had a safari turbo fitted during the week and I thought the precleaner would be history. They fitted up another custom pipe and it all looks factory.
The Patrol is daily driver for wife and kids and holiday tourer so I will keep the precleaner for the moment.
Will ditch it down the track if and when I decide to remove the muffler from the exhaust....

Piss off the precleaner. Rip it off, and look at the diameter of the outlet on the bottom of the box, its about 1/4 the size of the inlet.MKPatrolGuy wrote:I'm fitting a snorkle to my TD42 turbo Mav and I'm debating wether to ditch the prefilter housing and just run tubing in its place or should I keep the prefilter?
But then again if its a tourer, I'd try and figure out a way to refit it, with a bigger outlet. If your doing outback etc, you want as much filter as you can get.
youve seen teh photo I've posted up before on this aint yer

I think I'll remove it for now, I'm going to get a 10" (I think) Cyclone prefilter thing for the top of the snorkle.bogged wrote:Piss off the precleaner. Re: TD42 Prefilters & Snorkels
Got the large donaldson in the shed. They work well. But are heavy, not sure how the plastic would go with that weight on it over masses of corrigations.MKPatrolGuy wrote:I think I'll remove it for now, I'm going to get a 10" (I think) Cyclone prefilter thing for the top of the snorkle.
donaldson Pre filter not
Had a look at getting a donaldson top spin precleaner for the safari snorkel, after doing a bit of research and talking to a filter specilast in sydney i steered away from it as it had some reported failures and high pitch noises, after some more research I have gone with a Sy-clone, it seemed to be the best design and it is a standard fit to all large CAT engines now. Took a while to find out if it would suit a 4.2td patrol with a snorkel. Wasnt a problem as they sell adaptors to suit. Just got to wait for it to arrive.

Far out! Talk about a dig, I posted this over 3 years ago. Just in case anyone was worried about my snorkle choice. I got the Safari and ditched the precleaner, still using the normal ram head and a unifilter prefilter if it is really dusty.
