Hi guys just looking to get a little more power out of my NA 2L. Wondering if extractors are worth my money? I have seen them on ebay for $225 just wondering if this is a worthy/noticeable investment? Also looking to home make a snorkel do they give a good power increase?
Cheers

Getting more power from a 2L

neither a snorkle nor extractors will give any noticeable power increase. a snorkle will probably reduce power and extractors will only help with high rpm. they only real way to get more power from a 2L is to turbo it. you can fiddle with the fueling to ensure it is running at or close to the smoke limit bit the reality is there is simply not a lot of power to be had.

X2, it will never be quick but the turbo kits can be bought for around $500, and bang for you buck will be the best cash you ever spend on it IMO.dumbdunce wrote:neither a snorkle nor extractors will give any noticeable power increase. a snorkle will probably reduce power and extractors will only help with high rpm. they only real way to get more power from a 2L is to turbo it. you can fiddle with the fueling to ensure it is running at or close to the smoke limit bit the reality is there is simply not a lot of power to be had.

of course. you increase the friction/drag for the inlet air - the engine has to work to overcome that friction. there is no useful 'ram air' effect under about 200km/h.dansharp wrote:Snorkel reduces power output?
not really. just find yourself a kit and bolt on horsepower. if you can find a complete kit for $500 and spend a weekend putting it together, the only other money you should need to spend would be to get your exhaust sorted out. With fitting a turbo kit is there any other internals i need to change?
the trick is to find a genuinely complete kit.

if you do some reading on it you will learn alot, but basically you need an oil return point, on mine its plumbed into the sump but some people use a t piece into an exsisting drain. the manifold, the turbo, cross over pipe, its unlikely and you dont 'need it' but a boost compensator on the injector pump (i dont have one). and if you can the exhaust.dumbdunce wrote:of course. you increase the friction/drag for the inlet air - the engine has to work to overcome that friction. there is no useful 'ram air' effect under about 200km/h.dansharp wrote:Snorkel reduces power output?

some ct 20s are different to others some are water colled etc some are not. so instalation will differ a little.
