hi im just wondering if anyone knows if the 4d56t engine from Japan difers from the Australian version seen that i have an import some people have told me there are some differences if so what are the difference between the two?
also does anyone know if there is a website where you can enter your vin number and it tells you what your vechle comes out of the factory with would make it easier to find spare parts

yours wouldn't happen to be a green auto shorty with 2" lift?

blue over silver isnt rare :finger:

there are some differences, the bumpers being chrome is one, not sure bout the rest

if they are anything like the difference between New Zealand (land of the Jap Import!!) New Paj's and Jap Imports

The main difference is the level of trim and accessories they have .. Most Jap models came fully loaded with ACond, Electric Windows, power Steering, Fabric instead of cheap vinal seats, Carpet, Chrome Bling bumpers etc, Factory 3 way adjustable rear shocks, Bigger "westcoaster" truck style mirrors, LSD's in the rear, and if yours has leaf rear end most of the Jap imports have 4 wheel disk brakes as well and of course 99.999999999% of Imports are either 2.5 Diesels or the 3.0 V6 petrols, Very few Imports Ive seen here have the 2.6 Astron or even rarer the 2.0 Turbo petrol motor.

There are two different types of front brake calipers for the Diesels btw I discovered this when I tried to replace one of mine of a same year NZ New Paj (which i *think* would be the same as the OZ spec'ed ones),

meece4x4 you know your stuff mine is the 2.5td with coil rear end with all the bling and gauges... i was just looking on ebay and saw an injector pump listed for the 2.5td and he is advertising a difference between the japanese to australian so somone must of misled him to, i thought it would be a bit strange of mitsubishi to change the motors but just wanted to ask

LOL The biggest problem with Mitsubushi's (well here in NZ and Japan anyway) is you could go into a dealer and pretty much "build" your car from the ground up from the availiable accessories list.. you want power steering ...tick .... want rear LSD ....tick ... you want power windows ... tick ... fabric seats ... No?? ok ..... X ..the paj's didnt really just come out as a Base model, mid spec or top end Exceed model .. you could take any of the range and add and delete what you wanted .. this lead to some very interesting variations of options.

Ive seen on Jap Imports here everything from the full bells and whistles but with wind up windows to a base poverty pac inside but with all the good "go further" bits under it and Factory Bullbars ..

oh heres how to decode the VIN plate btw

yeah mine came with all the bells and whistles which can be a pain for instance two aircon units front and rear that holds a lot of gas had to find a gas leak in it lots of pipe work to check..and mine only has one id tag with paint code axles ect but no build date even trying to get a air filter for it when i bought it it had a k&n on it but the bloke gave me the original air box it took me over a week to find an air filter couse its an oval shape where the australian one is a big cylinder shape i even bought and austalian air box but the mounting points on the inner guard are different and i would have had to made and welded in new brackets but i finnally found an air filter at a truck supply place.
did they come out standard with a lsd not sure if i have one or its just worn out if its worn out can you get them made tighter to work more like a locker if so that would be great.

thats the 64 million dollar question :D the easiest (and safest) way to check for a LSD if your stickers gone .. jack both rear wheels off the ground (use axle stands not just the jack!) and spin the wheels .. if it's an Open diff the opposite wheel will spin in the opposite direction to the one your turning, if it's LSD they should both turn the same direction.

This test however wont tell you how *good* the LSD is .. the Mitsi ones are dam good, almost as good as the Nissan ones but they do wear out and after almost 20 years and 200 000km i would say most would need a look at.

As for modifying them Ive heard of people machining 18 thou off the drum plates to tighten them up , not as good as a locka because no matter how tight the LSD is if you rooster one wheel off the ground it's still going to transfer all the drive power to that wheel only.

Only if the driveshaft is free to turn, so make sure the gearbox is in neutral.
