you fill it through the dip stick hole, the one in my rangie is in front of the driver in the engine bay

get under the car, fill plug is at the front of the auto pan. From memory its an 8mm allen key head. If you've drained it, you must fill till the fluid starts coming out the fill hole, start the car up and run through the gears, then leave it running in neutral and fill more until the fluid just starts to come out of the filler hole.

If you haven't drained it, and just want to top it up, start the car up, run through gears, put in neutral and leave running while you whip the fill plug out - fluid should only just trickle out of the hole.

just be sure your not putting transmission fluid into you transfer case. it would not be a pleasing result.
