2.4td efi drama

Post by berad »

I'm looking at a 2.4td out of a 91 surf, lowish k's just because its cheap and i need something before august.

The problem is, there is no glow plug light showing up on the dash, and the glow relay wasnt engaging, so we bypassed whatever switches that on and wired it up for 5 secs or so and turned the motor over, no dice.

The glow plug rail is only getting 7 odd volts, is this normal? so we turned it on for longer still not running, it wont even cough and splutter, and yes i checked the diesel, and poured another 10 litres into the tank, popped one of the injectors and primed about a litre of fuel through the system, fuel instantly came out with the first pump.

There is no diesel smell coming out of the exhaust though when cranking, so i guess there is something wrong either before the ecu or inbetween the ecu and pump.

Does anyone have any ideas, or have had this problem before.

The motor is still complete and wired sitting in another car so it shouldnt be a problem i've cause with wiring something wrong.

Cheers
Brad.

i assume its the 2lte motor not the 2lt.

the glows are dual stage and ecu controlled. but by the sounds of it its fuel pump not injecting. check your wiring and your sensors. i think common one to damage is the water temp at the back of the block.

yer 2lte, so they wont run at all not even fart and cough without all sensors throwing the right resistance?. so the ecu has possibly shut the fuel etc down because of a sensor?.

thanks.
