im am looking at getting a new hilux and want a 4" lift on it or bigger , has any one done this or no anything about it, i have been priced $2600 for a 4" it sounds good to me it includes drop down brackets

4" drop bracket lift is only for posing...not for offroading.

you do not gain much clearance, actually you gain nothing other than what the tyres will give you.

yeah, its not a bad price, but I have heard people mention that they feel like the front end is weaker after fitting these kits.

You are much better off going a decent 3" lift kit and some 33's....that way you will gain 6" more clearance than standard under the front diff, whereas with a drop bracket lift you will only be gaining 3" under the front diff that the tyres (if running 33's) will give you.

Ive also heard of steering components wearing quicker with a drop bracket lift.

Cv's would also go bang more often with some much angle on them.

More than 3inch in most cases is nothing but silly imo.

Yes 3" is the absolute maximum that these cv's can handle. anything more requires a drop bracket.

you just have to weigh up the cost versus the effectiveness of either option.

im not looking at taking it off road im seting it up for traveling, the lift is mainly to make it look better, i have a jeep tj for my off roading, ive heard the steering can wear and get sloppy with off roading in the new hiluxs is this true? i mainly want a reliable car that i can take on long trips around the country,so im setting up a hilux and i dont want it to look low and soft

My steering is fine with 50,000km on it with 3" lift and 33's being there since day one....

yeah, go for it if the snake kit is the option.

Have a look at Ultimate Suspension......they are the ones that make the 4" snake kit for Snake.....but they sell their own 3.5" kit that is better built.

just something to look into before you bite the bullet.

I'm running a superior 4" lift in mine, 33" MTZs & 1" diff drop spacer. I think for memory the kit cost about $2300, look on superiors website for pricing. I've found it to be a very good kit with a good amount of travel for an ifs vehicle and rides well on road 2. Hope this helps, Steve.

No offence steve but that Superior kit is pushing the IFS past its limits IMO.....the 1" drop brackets dont do much, they give you half inch worth of reprieve on the cv angles, and are not a tru 1 " drop because they rotate the front diff forwards because its impossible to lower the rear diff mount due to its design......so you'd have the clearance of a 3" anyway under the front diff due to the brackets and the cv angle of a 3.5" lift.....too sever if you ask me.

Your inner cv boots would be touching for sure.

Mine are "just" touching sitting at a full 3" .

I agree, the other components of the kit are great, but its just pushing it too far. If there was a way to lower the rear diff mount a full inch, that would be ideal and you could run a full 4" lift with the cv angle of a 3".....in a perfect world. :roll:
