Well, never thought id see the day when id consider buying a jeep but sierra's arnt really family orientated. Iam impressed with the spec list on some of the new models, particulary the rubicon with diff locks, 4dr blah blah. I dont know much about the other models but my criteria is that it must have 4drs, lockers and i would prefer turbo diesel. Not to mention im used to thrashing suzuki's so driveline strength is also a consideration.
That is the main reason i have ruled out earlier jeeps as major stuff seems to break regulary but the new models have my attention.
What do i want to look for ?

Earlier Jeep break more stuff? - If you are talking TJ wrangler - I'd disagree. Sure the Slip yoke design sucks and should be replaced ASAP, and the standard gearing is pretty ordinary, there are plenty of them out there that cope a hiding with few problems.
But back onto topic - JK Wranglers. it sounds like the Unlimited Diesel (non-rubicon) with the Offroad pack would be the way to go. That way you get better diff gearing, a rear diff lock and a few other upgrades - but get the Diesel engine as well.

cheers, ive been to look at a few at chrysler dealerships and aside from the fact the salesman know nothing about them of any use, i was wondering what the 2 and 4 doors are classed as on the rego papers.
Ive had SWB sierra's in the same configuration as jeeps and they have been classed as utes. I only ask as i will be trying to claim 100% back on tax through my bussiness for the vehicle.

Before I purchased the JK Ruicon, I had a Suzuki Grand Vitara.
I went for a 2 Door JK as the unlimted (4 door) versions were to big for what I wanted.
The Rubicon has rock crawling gears standard and diff locks F/R.
My JK is fairly stock, but It will go more places the GV will go.
The only thing I have done to it is an ARB 2" lift abd the ARB winch bull bar.
As for bits that break, I have not broken anything. However, I am sure the rear mudflaps would have been snapped off by now. if I had not taken them off. Someone would have made after market mud flaps.
The Rubicon on comes in a petrol engine.
It is not the most economic, but then, I have been used to driving Suzuki's
There are heaps of aftermarket parts for them.
