Drag link adjustment
When adjusting the two grub screws on the end of the drag link, the Gregory's manual says to tighten it and then back off one and a third turns.
Should this be followed or should I just tighten it up and leave it at that? I dont want it too tight to feel everything on the road and I dont want it too loose that there is play in the steering.

I just did mine up till it was firm, didn't bother backing it off.
If you haven't already, its worth getting a rebuild kit for them, as my cups in it were extremely worn.

You need to check the spring lengths, thats in the manual, when there apart and unloaded, ie spring free length, and cup and ball condition too.
do as suggested, take them up tight, to remove freeplay, then back off the required amount.
failure to do so will mean that all you do is put more preload on those springs than what is required, and achieve nothing.
Kits are available thru terrain tamer, or fleabay for the cups etc.
Make sure your spit pins actually lock the screw, as ive seen them unwind as the pins didnt lock them in place as they are meant to do.
cheers

Also check for wear on the ball on the pitman arm.tez wrote:Cheers. Not sure if they have been done for a while and the rebuild kits are cheap so I will order a couple and put new cups springs in.
If its worn I have a brand new pitman arm if you are interested.

How worn were the cups? Mine were absolutely rootedtez wrote:Did the drag link ends today, the pitman arm ball looks fine. The j arm ball looks a bit worse for wear with it being out of round (dents in it??). What could cause this?
You dont have a j arm do you
I do but its sold at the moment, and still attached to the tie rod.
Could of got a bit of dirt or something in the cups and put some pitting in the ball?

Damn, stupid design,I have to go searching for a good second hander now. Or see how much a aftermarket item is going to cost.
The cups werent too bad, actually looks pretty good although I had the rebuild set so I threw new items in. I imagine the ends have been done at some stage, although the arm hasnt!
