Has anyone bolted a gt30 bb garrett onto a td42 for street driven trucks not comp trucks?

I am in the process of buying a garrett gt30/40 and am not sure if i want to spend the $2000 on a turbo which will have huge amounts of lag?

Let me know when you guys want me to send you my spare manifold for intercooler conversion :P

Marin was going to try my GT3082R on his Mav which is running the housings to spool up as low as possible, this way he does not have to but one to test.
My 40 flies as Marin well knows and makes good smooth power from low down but it may not suit a diesel. My engine size is the same, my rev range only 500 rpm more. So we were curious as everyone says GT28.

He is currently having a fuel pump built at more expence than the turbo

As for your Manifold I'll pm you

Andy when is this monster 8 core laminova cooler going to be fitted to your truck mate?

I will make up my mind on the 5 or the 8 core when yours is fitted.

Well with the BMW out of the way another bolt on 4 core rolled off the line :D

This one is destined for Gsinclia, Awill4x4 has altered the intake plenum slightly as you can see between the 2 pictures.

The next one will be about 2 weeks away.

Busman is about ready for fitting too so testing soon, new custom heat exchanger with 2 X 10" fans as well as we try to improve on Marin's

out of interest... where is everyone putting the filler cap for the system? obviously need to be higher than the IC itself - is this another seperate component i need?

While i'm at it, can you guys confirm that this is all i need to fit her all up:
1 x very bling IC (obviously)
Heat exchanger of some sort (radiator)
thermo fan (or two) inc wiring
Pump to circulate the water, inc wiring
Hose and clamps etc

Cheers Ben

Yes you need a high point to fill from. PM sent. Couple of options.

Oh and here is the latest from the M3 in the US, Carmen has done a top job over there of piping it up.

Almost there, I called in on Busman today and figured out where he want to run his pump and piping. Like all GQ's few are truly stock, twin batteries, after-market turbos ect ect ect.

The heat exchanger looks good custom with twin 10" Spal fans duel core and triple passed and the cores are better quality too.

Tomorrow should see a lot of the fitting completed.

Image

Busman will however have to loose a little more grill, but we have yet to see if this means completely or weather we can retain the factory look. from the front.

To the boost gauge busman added this but we may make it stock.

Feed from the Turbo is a huge improvement on the DTS as with Marin's.

Heat exchanger is in, just the brackets for the top to do.

The Grill is intact

I think I need my boost gauge and waste gate to be connected up after the cooler as well so that it takes into account my 0.5% pressure loss through the cooler cores LOL

$1500 each including cores, but don't forget you need a heat exchanger, pump and thermo fans on top of that.

All up expect to spend around $2500 if you fit it yourself.

Well Busman has nearly finished his install yaaaaawn :D

It should hit the Dyno late this week or early next.

It will be good to finally have some numbers for the generic unit.

As always pre and post temp, boost and power gains good or bad will be posted.

Laminova intercooler

Post by busman »

Finally finished hooking it up! Went for a quick spin and it feels more responsive, but importantly egt's are lower and they drop much quicker when you lift off. So i'll talk to Dieseltec tomorrow to organise the after dyno run. I think Matt's going to post some pics as well.

Grabbed a couple of pics with the mobile, next up Dyon time and a tune.

First a straight run no adjustments to fuel and then tweak it up to bring the AFR's back to where they were.

The first run should show the ARF's to be leaner as Marin's did due to the colder denser air allowing the addition of more fuel.

More fuel more power

The biggest difference between petrol and diesel is the exhaust temperature is much cooler on the diesel. This is why diesels run smaller turbos for the same size engine.
There are other factors too, petrol turbos are usually sized to get more top end power and diesels sized to maximise low to mid range torque.

I'd be very interested in the results of trying a GT30 on Marin's duesel, make sure you let me know.
