SWB Vs LWB

SWB Vs LWB
Why are the SWB pajeros considered such a better 4wd? Is this actually the case?
It depends on what you want to do with it.Bastler wrote:Ok cool but they are still nothing compared to a Patrol or cruiser. Travel problems etc.macneil wrote:more ramp over angle easier to maneuver in tight spaces.. tend to lift front wheels more..
If you want a hardcore weekend fun toy then a Paj isn't a good place to start.
If you want a capable and comfortable tourer then a SWB isn't a good place to start.
Because I'm a glutton for punishment my shorty is primarily a tourer (Fraser, Cape York, Simpson) and more than capable of taking me anywhere I want to go (as a tourer), including Gunshot Creek, both ways, the day after I was assured "even Patrols are winching it" - drove it five times for the camera.
"As good" as a Patrol or Cruiser? I couldn't say that with a straight face.
"Nothing compared to a Patrol or cruiser" is a statement of ignorance.
The truth is somewhere in between, and closer to the Patrol or Cruiser than many would realise. If you're going to do lift, lockers and tyres, there's not a great deal of difference in off-road capabilities - but the live axles will typically do it more easily.

if my paj had solid front end from factory i wouldnt have bought a lwb patrol.. id ute my shorty paj!..
only real reason i changed to the patrol was space requirements & fuel economy both cars use about the same ammount of diesel.. but my paj never let me down.. got me everywhere i wanted to go.. i did shit my self at times but it never rolled.. and i had it at 35d on my tipo meter at one point..

yeah thats along time after mine aswell :S i was going down a hill and took a wrong line over a rather large rock ... i shit my self... what made it worse was i could feel the back wheel in the air.. then i looked in the mirror and there was about 1m under my wheel :S dam leaf springs..-Scott- wrote:35d is the redline for me - time to back off.macneil wrote: i did shit my self at times but it never rolled.. and i had it at 35d on my tipo meter at one point..
Sliding sideways when on a steep side-slope causes quite a pucker too.
