Whats everyone paying for these bad boys?

Just went down to the wreckers, and they reckon around $3300 for the engine, computer, loom, igniter. Think it comes with alternator.

Are they kidding themselves or is this a fair price?

Sounds a bit steep. I paid $2100 with everything - ecu, loom, engine, bellhousing, alternator, a/c, p/s hoses, everything except the radiator. That was a year ago, not sure if prices have gone crazy since then

Their a sought after motor, lucky theres 1000's of hilux's etc being smashed to get them from, i wouldnt pay any more than 1500 with everything to get it running with lowish k's.

Make sure you get the coil/ignitors, there expensive to replace. I've had one fail and cost me $200 non geniuine brand new , so 400 if they dont come with them

paid 1000 for my first one, with all i needed. sunk it and bent 2nd n 3rd rod. Brought another one for $400 engine only, its in and running fine, looks like its had a hard life tho lots of sludge in the engine, but still runs well.

To me that sounds like a good price, assuming its everything... but then again, I'm sure others will tell you they got it cheaper :)

Wreckers may charge more in Vic, coz when I did mine, the cheapest I could find was $1950 for whole lot - except for radiator and a/c compressor, so all up it cost $2200, and that was after calling about 10 wreckers! Ended up getting it from Just Toyota in Moorabbin, but not sure if I'd recommend them as they gave me the wrong bellhousing several times as it wasn't bolted to the engine, as well as the wrong clutch fork, so took a bit of sorting out...

How many km's are people getting out of them?

Old man has a 2wd lux he wants to get rid of with about 250,000 on the clock, but still runs a dream.

I tried to kill my 3RZ at about 160000 for a warranty job, yeah i know stupid. Anyway as much as i tried to "sensibly" kill it, it didnt even change the results of a compression test. Now at 180 and nothing has changed.

About 150hp/4800rpm and 144ftlb/4000rpm stock which is about 3x the output of a 3L diesel, they only hav 25% less power then the 5VZ, V6.

What have you needed to get the turbo going?
-Complete motor
-T3/T4 or GT30r turbo depending on budget
- A custom clutch with ova 2500lb clamp force
-2nd hand cleaned/flowed RX7 S4 550cc injectors
-adjustable rising rate fuel reg
-walbro 600hp efi pump
-microtech LT10s ECU, available with 3rz base map
-turbo manifold
-intercooler or your choice
-3" mandrel exhuast
-assorted plumbing and adaptors from ebay to get everything connected
-dyno tuning time

I think thats it, Once u factor in that you can probably sell ur old diesel, turbo diesel setup for more then the complete 3RZ it doesnt get all that expensive.

You dont hav to do anything to the motor if staying under 10psi of boost, There weak spot is the rods and If u start goin for bigger power (ova 300hp ;) ) then u will need to either decompress the engine or fit forged rods, if u buy a shagged motor to begin with u can get complete forged rebuild kits from the states which r bullet proof.

Cheers
