I have a 1997 Nissan Patrol 4.2 Diesel, with aftermarket turbo fitted, only 150,000kms. The car's power is seems to plateau at 3000rpms, seems to be starved of fuel. Took it to mechanic, they said it would be the fuel pump, big bickies required to fix it, however didn't even take it for a test drive. Has anyone got any ideas what it may be, is there anything else that could be the problem that I should look at before getting the pump done??? Have only started to experience the problem since Christmas, thought I may have got a bad batch of fuel, however I have changed the filter and run a few tanks of fuel since then and the problem still exists.
check all your turbo hoses aren't split or leaking do you have a boost gauge ?? if not plug one in and see if it's getting boost alright, and when was the last time you had your injecters cleaned ???

turbo hoses look good, only been fitted for 10 months. Haven't had the injectors cleaned yet, only 150 000k's, however run through Chemtech Diesel Power regularly. I don't think it is an injector problem, seems to be fuel supply, don't have a problem till it is under load.
Don't have a boost gauge, got it set when we fitted the turbo and have left it. Seems to have plenty of boost, just levels out around 3000 like it is starved of fuel

Deffinitely feels like it is starved of fuel, will take it somewhere else today and hope for a better outcome.
I had a similar problem, but it seems I was getting some air into the system. Took mine to Diesel Aus in Brisbane and they stripped it and cleaned it and fixed it
Did you take it back to the guys who fitted it? or at least an installer for the turbo brand? they may have seen the preoblem before and know what to do to help?
Yes, took it back to the guys who fitted the turbo, they are the ones who didn't even look at it, just said it would be the fuel pump, bit disappointed that they didn't even take it for a test drive, especially after spending so much money with them in the past.
Problem has now been fixed, took it to the guys at Northside 4x4 and they identified the problem within 5 minutes. The gauze filter on the inlet to the fuel pump was blocked, caused by bad fuel whilst out and about, they replaced it, $1.45 for parts and half hour labour. Now have full power back again. I now know where to go in the future, thanks for all the advice,
