Hi Alberto, i take it you are competing, good to hear mate.OnPatrol wrote:Yep, half the challenge is getting there. Are you taking your GU to the campsite? No the GU will be left at home, parts of it may be coming up though. We will be towing up Jasons truck on Birdy's trailer with his 100, that way we can tow it home should sh!t hit the fan.

G'day all
as part of our racing at Cliffhanger this year we are supporting a charity.
its the call to arms campaign is to raise money and awareness of mens cancer.
http://www.calltoarms.com.au/
Did you know that one in two Australian men will be
diagnosed with cancer by age 85? In fact, one man will hear
the words ‘you have cancer’ within the next 10 minutes.
That’s why Team GR8GU has decided to help tackle cancer.
We’re raising money to fund the Cancer Council’s life-saving
cancer research, important cancer prevention programs, and
support programs for men facing tough times.
But we need your help. Please dig deep and donate whatever
you can afford. By funding Cancer Council’s work, every
single person who contributes could help to save a man’s life.
And, with one in two of us diagnosed with cancer by age 85,
one day, that man might even be your father, brother, son or best mate.
i have registered my details under the team name of GR8GU.
im asking everybody here if they can make a online donation to help us help them
online donations can be made here
http://vic.cancercouncilfundraising.org ... SID=150146
or by going to their website and using the search function we are registered in vic as GR8GU
thanks Jason,
team member
Team Gr8GU
p.s. i would also like to ask every team if they could put a band of yellow tape (like an armbard) somewhere on the side of their cars to show support.

update
Gees so much to say
Rudes and I are up here setting up stages and camp. Kev and the catering boys (and Neil) have been busy building stuff for the kitchen, tanks, drainage, grading, etc.
There is a lot of water here this year. So much so it has become a problem. Much of our favourite creek is still totally under water, even at base camp - pics tomorrow. Our old water spots have too much water and so we have new fun stages set up. I have driven all the water stages and yes I had to winch and no Rudi wasn't going to get wet. Question - if the driver stands on his side steps and throws the rope to the navi on the banks is that allowed? By the way Rudes stepped over my rope a dozen times. Another question - can the navi be pinged but the driver not ???
Today I buggered my 24V alternator in the water so the winch stopped working eventually and then in a more aggresive driving style (no winch) I managed to break a CV. Going to take her for a bath in the morning and wash the mud off before we fix CV. What's the bet that in 3wd I totally get stuck and it comes back muddier... Test driving the rocks tomorrow. All in a hard day's work.
By the way we have had some heated debates with CCDA over NOS. Maybe no one is running Nitrous this year and so there would be no issues, but if you are then please contact us or the CCDA.
Remember to go over your newsletters (copies on web site), bring your car numbers and that you must have a next G phone. We have been testing our email to SMS service and will be doing a test SMS very soon. You wont receive SMS up here on any other service.
It is raining now - good for the dust but I dont want any more water.
Not many more sleeps to go.

water
I started out walking the water. Feerful of Doodlefish Rudes stood on the side and mocked my legs of steel. After rudes convinced me that doodlefish actually inhabit the waters around here I elected to just drive around in it. It's kind of scary being first car in and sometimes I had half a door in on one side and yet the tyres were barely wet on the other. We have stayed away from deep spots and side slopes in the water so there's no real threat of deep water flooding unless you are somewhere you shouldn't be.
ok ill be the dummy to ask whats a doodlefish?
The Bush Needle Fish are a native fish from the western water ways they look alot like a small leich. They suck blood out of the gills of other fish and the reason they are called "doodlefish" because sometimes they mistake kangaroo/ human orifices for fish gills. They have needles they attach themselves with that point backward and they take alot of removing. If you must go into the water where needle fish are wear some sort of water proof jocks and you`ll be ok.mabey.
The Rocky Boys are ready to go and hold no responsability or or liability for the above statment.......

how well would bilge pumps work in the buggy ???Drafty wrote:Good one Hobzy, look forward to seeing the photos.
Sounds like it might be worth installing some bilge pumps or is the water not that deep if you attack it sensibly.
LOL
also Rob might have to install some "doodlefish" nets !!!
can they be cooked & eaten ????

doodlefish
Heads up - Rudi's Dad went fishing last night with a rifle and shot a doodle fish. He de-spiked it and we had it on the spit. Good eating. Yes Lockee's onto it - like Crocodiles these doodlefish come out of the water and prey on goats and stray cattle. They can be found in caves when the water goes away. Will have to look up doodle fish in the CCDA insurance and rules. Smithi says there is a penalty for not calling "stand clear - doodlefish".

CVs
Dam and Blast - I just did number 2 CV in less than 24 hours. I sensed something had to be wrong. I called Sean Calcino at South East Qld 4x4 as he built the Hilux (identical twin to Lawrie Sternbeck's but minus the V8 for now) and Sean did some homework on the donor car for the live axle job - grey import Prado 78 series. Happens to be same axles and CVs as HZJ75 Cruiser which makes my life easier. Nice work Sean.
Then I called my mate Alan Mathews at Don Kyatts in Melb and he sourced Jap axles and CVs to suit and is dropping them off at home tonight. You're tops Al. Guys - if ever you need Toyota Parts you just can't go past the team at Kyatts for expertise and service.
Tomorrow Sandi and Leon (Burns) are driving up with the parts so only 1 day moping around in 3wd. How cool is that???
I love it when a plan comes together.
Stopped raining about a half hour ago - Everyone bring gumboots. We expect it will dry up fast but Gees it gets sloppy when it rains.
