need the series 2 vn motor to get a flywheel as the series 1 had a different crank for auto and manual but they standardised after series 2.
that being said i think CRS did a fly wheel for the series one motor at one point

series one motors had different cranks for auto and manuals as "hiluxmad" said, you should be able to see the difference as the newer ones had 8 bolts on the fly wheel and i think the old auto's had six, either way crs and marks 4x4 do a kit to change it over either way. you might have to look at a bit of the wiring side of things aswell depending on what your going to use it for(ie speed sensor).

if you can(and havent already bought a motor) get a series 2 vn/vp/vr motor as they are easyer to deal with in the long run eg s1 motor the thermostat is at the back of the motor and a right PITA.
cant remember if the manual on the series 1 had 8 bolts or not.
