Ok everyone, I'm planning on doing a SAS Conversion on my WD21. One question I have (sorry, maybe stupid) is what ratio front diff should I be using? How does all this work? I have found a guy sell a front diff housing with 3.43 gears. He reckons its the standard ratio across the MQ range - L28, SD33, SD33T.
Cheers

SAS Conversion
Hi mate
If you're keeping original rear diff then you will need to use a front diff of the same ratio as rear...my wd21 has 4.6 ratio...I also have a d21 navara that i'm doing a solid axle conv on (also 4.6), I was originally going to use MQ diff, when i bought them was told they had 4.6 ratio but when i opened the centre it was 4.3, I bought both diffs so was just going to throw both under...have now changed to using GQ diffs.
One thing to keep in mind, the pathy transfer case has a passenger side output for front driveshaft, the mq and gq diff centres are on drivers side.

Re: diff
The MQ is slightly narrower, and it's also a leaf sprung diff, the GQ is coil spring (except for some rear diffs on utes, i think???) If you put an mq diff under a gq and kept the gq coils you would have to weld radius arm links, panhard links, coil hats on to diff...pom300 wrote:hey sorry to sorta get off the question but is an mq diff the same as a gq diff if the ratios are same, what i mean is will a mq diff fit in a gq
Yep the MQ diffs are pretty much the same width as the rear on the wd21 and d21...i've measured my gq diffs and they're 1420 from inside of hub to inside of hub...the d21 rear diff is 1300 from inside hub to inside hub...so about 60mm difference on either sides...
