60series Flex opinions
Hey fellas, i been checkin out lifted and undersprung 60's lately and they have close to the same setup, yet all seem to flex better than mine!!
I know that the best way to do it is SOA and flat springs so im not after that speech, id like to stay sprung under for this trucks life.
As it is now as soon as i go down a ledge/step and one wheel drops lower than say 2ft it feels like its about to roll
Im thinking of trying the superior droppers, who thinks this will help the situation? If not, what will?
I even rolled it on its side the other day cutting a hoop, its upsetting!!

No experience with the drop shackles myself but I fail to see how they would work well, and if you do a search I think you'll find the general gist is they aren't that crash hot.
A mate of mine in Sydney had a cool set up on the back of his 75, think its called buggy leaf? Can't think of how to explain it but it was basically a spring pack cut in half and added between the normal spring pack and the shackle, and there was a pin in there that you undid for offroad and the whole thing would drop down.

Oh yep ive seen that setup but i dont like the idea of it on something i drive everyday, unless it is done properly by someone with experience in it i suppose.

i had the same trouble with my last 60. It had 2 inch springs (king springs) and it had no travel at all. The front shackle angle was straight up and down. I removed a couple leaves and it softened up heaps and gave it more travel.
Ive seen drop shackles in action and from what ive seen and been told by blokes with them, they are good on the ramp. They look good when they drop in a hole but they dont do anything as they only drop from the weight if your wheel.

Yeh i think the drop shackles would help with my spring angles too, im floggin out bushes left right and centre!!
I will look into some 75 springs and do a reversal while im there, im gonna lose lift but yeh gaining flex will be tops

Rubber bushes with greasable shackles work better than nolathane or neoprene bushes.
They are to hard, i was flogging out nolathane every few months, so went back to rubber and sold it with the same bushes.
Saggy springs are ok as im doing a spring over on this one. How much$$$

Yeh im running rubber bushes up top now, with greasable shackles i went half half to see what would last.
So far the rubber is lookin better so im sticking to it.
Well the springs are here in Scone which is 2hrs from newy and 2.5 hrs from syd, i will look after ya with price but if your too far away ya'd hav to ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze.....

hey mate get supeior drop shackels, i got some and they are the best $600 i have ever spent on the car, made an unbelivable amount of difference, just make sure you spring pack is not to heavy cause i put mine on the rear and they didn work at all, i put them on the front and they fully open

what are you talking about "wider" ? they are longer, have more camber and combined with a 2'' shackle will give more flex due to the extra length with the right spring rate. yes i know they are longer but they are also wider thus making it harder to twist the spring when flexing, when a was down at superior engineering last i asked them if i could put them in cause i knew they where longer but they said to keep the 60 springs they will flex better, if you want longer springs get some custom made superior make 10" longer springs i think they are about $700 but for the rear only or just go with 40mm longer old man emu they work very well my mate has them on his 60

Front 75 series springs are ~40mm longer than equivalent 60 springs. Making them easier to twist due to the length increase. The ones your mate has are probably 75 series springs, 75 springs also have more camber than a 60 too. Combined with a 2'' shackle gives a good shackle angle and good uptravel/droop for minimal $$$.
I use 60 series rear springs front and rear of my middy which gives excellent travel, mostly due to having the right shackle angle.
This is the shackle angle of a 60 wit 2'' over standard shackles and 75 series fronts.
This is mine with 60 series rear springs front and rear in my middy. Rear doesnt flex that great due to tyre clearance, front is limited by shocks that are about 2-3'' to short, so more droop available. Very good uptravel too.

the front hanger needs to be moved forwards 2" to keep the diff in the same spot, ive got measurements somwhere but cant find them atm im pretty sure the rears are 8" or so longer, 2"in the front half and about 6"in the rear half.

You can add the FJ55 to that list of 70mm springs too.
My FJ55 has a mix of original front 55 leaves and 60 front leaves. The rear is a combination of 55 rears and 60 fronts.
My Jayco camper has a mix of 60 rears and 70 series fronts.
