Injecting a 4g54 Astron in NB Pajero

Just wondering how hard/whats involved in converting a carb 4g54 Astron to EFI. Is it as simple as finding a EFI motor and swapping the EFI gear over, or is there obsticals to be overcome?

I have found a donor vehicle ( a 1994 Magna thats EFI and Manual) and from what I understand the 2 motors are the same, it should be as easy as unbolting the EFI manifilds from the magna, taking all the required sensors and garbage and fitting it to the pag, power up the computer and Wah-La, EFI pag.

Would I be better swapping the whole motor?
Will the FWD engine bolt to the 4WD G/Box?
Will the inlet manifold need to be spun around? does it point the wrong way?

Any help and answers would be greatly appreciated, i am really just chasing better fuel economy on highway, will this make massive difference or should I just keep it simple carb???

its only fuel just keep putting it in :finger:

Hi phat!

Check out sigma-galant.com - there's a lot of posts there on EFI'ing the Astron, including a lengthy post by one of our members who converted his Gen 1 Paj. If you can make our search function work, there may be some links somewhere here.

Issues:
Depending on Astron version, the inlet manifold stud pattern may not suit.
The Magna head has different cooling ports to earlier Astron heads, so coolant flows need some attention. There's a few different solutions.
The throttle body will point into the firewall - it's a relatively simple cut and shut routine to put it on the other end.
The Magna plenum chamber may need to be shortened to fit under your bonnet.
You'll need an EFI fuel pump, and (for a 4wd application) you should use a lift pump & surge tank.
There's masses of other small things to deal with - so deal with them. :D

I converted my Sigma. The economy still isn't fabulous, but it's definitely better than carby. I also suspect I have camshaft & or ignition timing issues, but that's another story.

Hey scott, thanks for the info, just out of curiosity, what sort of MPG are U gettin from the EFi Sigma???
