Boost guage signal supply.

Post by SIMMO84 »

As above where do you get your boost guage signal from? Mine is in the manifold and at idle the needle shakes between -1 and 1 psi. I think it is because its too close to the engine. The only other place to fit it is on the line to the waste gate. Would that make a difference? Its on a hilux 2L engine.

Is it petrol or diesel mate? On my diesel the boost gauge is tapped in between the turbo and inlet manifold. Sits steady at 0 psi at idle.

Does yours need a tune to run smother? Does it run rough? Might be a timing problem? I don't no, just a thought.

Cheers.

Its a hilux 2L 2.4 diesel 4 cyl. It runs fine i just think it is too close to the head. The needle shakes like its got the DT's at idle only. Just wondering where other people have theres connected

Is it a good quality gauge?

Or a chinese ebay special?

Mine (1HZ) is also between turbo and inlet manifold. Sits at steady 0psi.

Its a VDO guage (thought they were ok) Once over 1000 rpm its all good. Another guage i had (just one laying around the workshop) that was much more sensitive did the same (it maxed out at full boost)

put a restrictor olive in the line, enzed/pirtek will give you one for free usually.

x2 there has been quite a few threads abut VDOs needing a restrictor in the line. I welded up one of the fittings and drilled a 1mm hole for the boost signal for mine.
where you have yours at the manifold should be fine

I have mine running off the compressor-wastegate signal hose, and have no problems. I run about 100mm of rubber hose, then have an adapter that steps down to about a 1mm ID plastic hose that runs through the engine bay into the gauge.
