Scenic Rim Club/Forum Challenge 2nd round 25th July 2009

Post by harrisbm »

The next round is going to be held on the 25th of July 2009 and will be running the same classes of vehicles.
The major sponsors, Suspension Stuff and On Track 4wd at slacks creek helped the last event be a success.
The tracks will be different with the 1st and 2nd tracks on the day being the tracks that were changed in the last event due to the wet weather.
If you would like to enter this fun style event please pm or register on the scenic rim website.

The 1st one ended up being one day and we feel it is better and allows people to either drive on the sunday around the park or do something else.

Scenic Rim Adventure Park is holding the first round of the club challenges on the 27th June 2009. We are inviting all the clubs to come and participate in the event that will require team work and will be spectator friendly.

The challenger’s vehicles will be required to meet the following long list:

1. Standard Factory model can have all terrain or mud tyres with a 100 point penalty for a 2 inch lift.

2. Slightly modified vehicle. (Honesty will be required)
• Can have tyres to size 33inch
• 3 inch lift maximum
• 1 form of traction aid (locker,lsd)

3. The vehicle is whatever you want as long as it’s registered. A roll cage will be required for some bonus point sections.

4. Must carry a minimum
• 1 winch (hand or electric)
• 1 tree trunk protector
• 4 rated shackles
• 1 winch dampener
• 4 rated snatch traps
• 1 winch extension strap
• Recovery points must be on the front and back of the vehicles.

5. The limit on the vehicles is they can only enter in three monthly challenges. As there is six monthly challenges we can help provide vehicles for the clubs who would like to compete but can’t make up the numbers. There will be a small penalty for clubs who use the help vehicles. The penalty could be the vehicle that is going to help. For the larger clubs who have the numbers there can be two teams entered.

Points system - The points are simple and will be displayed on contestant board. Points will be awarded to the best club cheerleading group supporting their team. Best dressed club will also be awarded points.

Special note - As this is a fun event, all drivers must be comfortable with driving the various tracks. There is no pressure to drive the tracks if the driver feels they don’t have the skill or feel their vehicle might experience damage that they are not willing to accept. If a vehicle pulls out for any reason there will be a minor penalty. The remaining vehicles that continue from that point will only be awarded with 2/3rds of the points they achieve from the section the vehicle pulls out.

Subbie rule - Should a vehicle retire hurt or a vehicle decides to pull out, a vehicle of similar requirements can be nominated by the club to finalise the events. If the subbie vehicle drives the two driving events, the vehicle is counted and can only enter and participate in the challenge two or more times.

Scenic Rim Adventure Park 4WD Club Challenge format will be as follows:

Saturday

8am start
• Camp Breakfast BYO
• Challenger Briefing

Event 1- Start 9:30am
• Vehicle relay. This will vary for each monthly competition. Hand eye co-ordination is the key for the 1st month

Event 2- Start 10:30am
• 3 tracks open with 30min intervals for team starts. Track numbers will be drawn out of a hat. This is a Driving Challenge where all 3 vehicles must navigate a track and use their collective brain power to answer some general questions. 2 question points on the track will reveal answers immediately after the teams answer. If you answer correctly you get the option of driving the tough track for a bonus point. If you answer wrong the tough track must be driven by one vehicle to eliminate the penalty points. This event may require recovery. Correct recovery techniques will have to be used.

12.30pm - Lunch

Event 3- Start 1:30pm
• All teams lunch run off. Shoes would be advised. This event will finish at 2:15pm even if the team hasn’t completed the course. Nominated vehicles will be required for this event and must seat at least 3 in belts. The more seats with belts the better off you’ll be.

Event 4- Start 2:30pm
• Driving skill challenge with a standard vehicle – navigation required. Recovery knowledge required. Driving skill challenge with the slightly modified vehicle – navigation required. Actual recovery may be needed. The above 2 vehicles will work together and will leave the main area to collect the required items. Each item gets a number of points. Driving skill challenge with whatever vehicle. Recovery may be needed as the track is extreme. Roll cage will be required for the bonus lines. This will be done close to the main area and will be lined with multiplying numbers ie x2,x3,x4. These multipliers will be used with the points accumulated by the other 2 team vehicles. A winch on the front of the vehicle may help you get through the track. A fellow club member can help set up the winch if required. There will be a penalty for winching. There is no time limit but if the wheels stop turning for more than 3 minutes or if winching is called you get 7mins (only 1 winch call is allowed) I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time keepers with fellow spectators and competitors.

5pm - Finish for Saturday

Sunday

Event 1 – 9.00am
• As this is the 1st event of the Sunday challenge, the make a club track will be decided by the order the clubs enter into the challenge. 1st club to commit and enter their 3 vehicles with payment gets 1st choice of the selected areas in the park to build their club track. Fellow club members can help as this has no points attached as it’s the club track and judging will be done at the end of the final challenge.
Rules for the Club Track
• No one other than club members can drive this track as it will be blocked off until the final event which will be judged by a specialist in the 4WD industry.
• This track will need to be driven by the standard vehicle but will also have to challenge the open class vehicles.
• Chicken tracks can be used and will be classed as the same track.
• Some track area will be large and others will be small.
• If a structure is used on the track it must be certified by an engineer. Please contact Brenden if your club is planning something along the structure line for clarification.

The driver and navigator from each club entered into the challenge will be able to camp free of charge on Friday night and Saturday night. The driving cost for the vehicles in the challenge will be $35 for the weekend.

Standard park fees apply to everyone else driving and camping.

For spectators who want to only watch for the day. There will be spectator parking and the cost will be:
• $5.00 per adult
• $2 per child (aged 5-17)
• Free, children under 5

Insurance is up to each compeditor as this is not a timed event most car insurance you'll find is fine. You will have to confirm your insurance position and that your car will be covered under your policy.
I am not sure if that is right Brendan, I think Sloshy might be on the money with 3rd party extension.

Thanks for that. The reason why this has not come up with our park is due to the fact we have taken out insurance that covers upto 10,000 spectators at any one event. We will be looking at this extension requirement to all open class vehicles as my research has come up that it doesn't cost any extra. Is that correct for those who have taken out the cover in the past?

depend on the insurer. Some are $10/day, some are free. Is not a big deal to get it. Its through the CTP insurer too.

So can I get some clarification here, if myself and two others wanted to come and do this event next weekend, do we have to be part of a team amongst us, or can be do the stages etc as individuals?

And what category would the following be in?

GQ, 32"s, 4 inch lift, no lockers

75 Series, 35"S, 4" lift, no lockers

75 series, 35"s, 4" lift, one working locker, no winch.

Cheers

You can go in the modified no lockers and open with the locker or not use the locker and all three can go in the modified. Individuals is fine.

Look forward to seeing you. 75 series are the toughest trucks around.
Bites please.

Damn right they are! :finger:

What safety requirements are there? Helmet, long sleeved clothing etc etc?

Any special requirements the trucks need to have apart from basic recovery gear?

Well due to my truck getting knocked out of low range 3/4 way up a hill and having my brakes practically fail on me, I provided the spectators with some extreme hill descent and myself with an extra brown set of undies.

Knocked the gear lever out of 4L 3/4 way up a hill, started rolling backwards, brakes not stopping me, in reverse which did nothing because the box wasnt in gear and ended up wedged on tree trucks/in side of hill/in mud.

I am extremely happy there was no spectators/competitors behind me at the time, the only thought going through my head was hoping that everyone was moved, moving or nowhere near me.

Big thanks to old mate in the Blue Patrol who snatched me off my resting spot and the rest of the way up the hill, old mate from Off Road 4x4 who told me how to fix the wayward lever issue (sorry forgot your name) and all the spectators for being nowhere near me.

Brenden and I decided that due to the issues experienced with the brakes it was in the best interest of both the park and myself to retire defeated to the sidelines. Turns out we found later that the front lines were being crimped between the bump stop and the suspension, something that will be rectified asap and before the truck hits the road again. Once the lever is fixed will be good to actually get drive to the front wheels all the time (was wondering why it couldn't climb the first rock face).

Big thanks to Brenden and co for taking the time to talk to me and for putting on a good event, I look forward to coming back out in a fully functioning car and giving it a go next time.

:D
