CROSS MEMBERS ON LUX PROJECT

Post by KS GQ »

is it alright to use just straight rhs or do the crossmembers have to have holes in them i have been debating this with a work mate who has told me and another work mate that it is neccessary to machine holes in the
crossmember. But we seem to think that solid rhs will work fine because how much does a chassis twist on a 4wd ????? if somebody could clear this up for me it would be great

cheers kodie

Which crossmember? My dropped front one has no holes in it and works fine.

My front was made with 50x50x5 and 100x5 with the gussets back to the chassis out of 5mm.

gday weiner yeh its the front and the back, i machined ten 50mm holes

on either side of 75x50x4mm thick rhs this is on the rear yesterday arvo

and just going to gusset from each corner of the crossmemeber to the chassis

either way holes or no holes i think its just going to be the same strength wise

I thought about holes, but you'd need to get it galv'ed or something to stop the dirt that would get in rusting it out from the inside.

yeh good point i had that in mind that alot of dirt and what ever else would make its way into there could machine holes on the bottom side so it could make its way out, oh well ill see how it goes.
