75 Series front drive engagement problem.
Hey guys.
My 75 has developed a weird issue whereas the fronts don't appear to lock into 4wd by locking the hubs and selecting 4WD. Seems if you sometimes turn the wheel to the side it starts to engage drive to the front though. It has put me into two situations in the last week which I don't wish to repeat.
Any ideas on what it might be?

the Aisin manual locking hubs are at fault here.
They get sticky and sometimes only 1/2 engage, the angle of the wheel and the thrust loads produced are enough to make it engage temporarily when on that angle.
Pull them off, clean and regrease them. Re thread the hub gear back on the spring if it has come off.
Good luck

Im positive they were locked in with my first mishap when I realised I had no drive to the front wheels. Was wondering if because they don't engage properly, if they are actually engaged like I'm sure they were, can they disengage as well?

Righto so we pulled apart the hubs and it appeared that the passenger side one, the spring had fallen out of the hub gear.
A question I do have is I purchased a Longfield super set with hub gears and the hub gears I have received are totally different, they are smaller and have no cutout for the spring to fit into.
Seeing as its a 40 series set, does this mean that I need to change the hubs from the 40 over to the 75?????

How would I be able to tell this?trev1 wrote:I didn't think there was any difference in the locking hub between the 40 and the 75. Make sure the gear isn't for the shonky AVM locking hubs.
Apart from the fact it looks nothing like the hub gear in there and is smaller.......

Actually, hang on, that would mean you would actually have to take your truck out and maybe get some scratches on it.
