Slunnie, I'd be surprised if the BB was significantly heavier than a TD42.
I'd run the BB for sure, but it's going to need some careful gearing and parts choice. Really, it's going to want a 4L80E behind it to allow a sensible cruise rpm.
I wouldn't want to try and drive that offroad with a manual behind it. It's be murder on driveline IMHO.

im running a 5 speed box on 37''s & it sits just on 2000rpm at 100klms in 5th, i drive it pretty hard on & off road & only ever broken the yoke out of the rear diff centre, one cv, one clutch & engine mounts, so the drive line seems pretty good considering i guess!!

For my Rodeo I'd go a 5.7 LS1 for
a) Its been done before by Bruce Garland
b) Has a "small" size and weight to fit the engine bay
c) Has in the right spec, up to twice the power at the fly than the 3.2 V6.

because its running on a 4wd dyno
if it is that rover motor is pulling not bad kws

a few mods to a 3.5 it will pull 300hp as in
rover vitesse group c winner(84 bathurst)

How fast does a 300hp 3.5 have to turn to make that much power? I suspect it'd be tuned for all top end without the low end torque which you want in a 4wd.
Since we're being silly now, I sometimes wonder about putting a bmw v12 into a P38 HSE. The HSE has the same auto (4HP24) as an 850i/750i etc.
Apparently the BMW V12 is actually surprisingly close in size and weight to a Rover V8 as well. 240kW, 500Nm... not bad. Probably sounds nice too.
Of course it is just a bolt-in swap in my little dream world.
