How to find my diff ratio
Looking to find what ratio my rear diff is. Car only recently bought so have no idea if it is an original diff or not. It is in a 1985 Hilux dual cab diesel. Cheers

What are the last 3 numbers/letters on the trans/axle plate.
Weiner has given you all the info you need, being a 85 model deisel it will be 4.3 or 4.5
Mine were 4.5s til i went 4.88's, and mine was a 84 diesel dual cab, with 31's standard according to the trans/axle code's.

It will be a 4.56 if its still the stock centre.
You do not have to pull the centre out to check it if your unsure on it ever being changed. Jack one wheel up. Put a mark on the pinion flange. Now turn the wheel one full rotation. While doing this count how many rotations the pinion does. Then multiply it by two. That will give you the ratio.

If you only rotate the tyre once you need to multiply the pinion by 2.
