I have been using mine a lot lately (any excuse i can find to winch large trees off the track or old car wrecks around) and couldn't be happier.
It ended up costing me
$850 for Runva 10000lb winch.
$600 for pump and clutch
$200 in laser cutting and a few fittings.
That's about it.
I didn't bother with a cooler or counter balance valve. After a few consecutive winches the oil gets fairly warm (guessing 60+ deg C from touching motor) which shows that the solenoid directional valve block and 3/8" dia oil hoses are on the smallish size.
My recommendation for anyone that wants a hydraulic winch is to get one of the 40cc/rev clutch pumps from surplus center or muncie and you would end up with one very fast and powerful winch.
P.S Also found that Eaton has just released a series of clutch pumps and their brochure is here.

Milemarker winch install
Guys,
I have finished the 12000lb MM hydraulic winch, AGR Super P power steering pump and remote reservoir. All went straight forward for as far as a custom install ever goes.
Pump is running at 1450rpm, and is over-driven via single A section belt. The pump has a 76PCD pulley, driven by a 170PCD driver, mounted on crank pulley. This speed is achieved at idle 650rpm. No slip or squeal but have not loaded it up yet.
I have not installed a cooler, but will be shortly based on the temps today after 1 hour of garage set-up time. I measured the temps via an infra red thermometer. After 1 hour cycling high and low speed, oil temp was 107DegC, Pump 109DegC, Hoses 95DegC, so the system gets pretty hot. The standard remote valve supplied by Milemarker is rated to 7.5USGPM, but has 1/4" ports, so I suspect the rating is ambitious and also based on a very cold environment and low duty cycle rating. Maybe if you ran say 5GPM the heat would not be as great - I am trying to push around 7.5 thru mine, but with the high heat, suspect this is not being achieved .
Winch runs smooth after all the air is purged, which took about 30 minutes of cycling. Oil was pretty foamd up and did expand out of the reservoir a couple of times, making a hell of a mess in the engine bay - lid not on at the time due to monitoring. The major difference is the winch doesn't sound like it is making a bit deal out of its operation compared to an electric which makes a racket from start to finish - have owned 3 warns and 2 milemarker electrics, all sounded like they were struggling from the get-go - maybe just a quirk of the electric motor.
I am running 3/8" high pressure hoses for supply and 1/2" on suction and return. The port size of the DCV didn't warrant anything larger as I wouldn't have gotten any value out of it.
Had a minor hassle with the TJM/Ox hand controller as it was incorrectly wired - stuffed around for a couple of hours getting to the bottom of that one - not happy at the time.
I have a pressure gauge with flying lead to hook up yet, plus am looking at a fan forced cooler for sure - need to find out whats around. The hyd hose guy reckons the cooler could see up to 1000psi from spikes at valve change over - not sure but its put a doubt in my mind about the cheap ebay coolers until I get further info.

Has anyone played around with a pto and gear pump set up, would be interested to see or hear of those set ups too, the pros and cons.

I am away with the car this next weekend so will see about some footage. Terrain is nothing exciting, more to try the thing out and respool the cable under load. Line speed is lower than expected, still not at the cause yet. Currently around 2.5-3M/min in low gear. Have got temps down on fluid using a cooler so am pleased with that. Unit is very quiet in operation, hardly hear it working above the engine noise.

I tested my winch out on bitumen the other day. With the brakes on and all four wheels locked up, and it had no trouble leaving rubber behind. (Should be as expected though.)
The only problem i have is that the clutch is in a very awkward place to get to behind the bullbar, and it is near impossible to reach when you are in a deep mudhole. I think i will need to make an extension of some sort so that it is easy to operate. Dave have you changed your clutch lever on your Runva.?

I also purchased and installed the MM 12000lb hyd, detailed in earlier portions of this thread. I went direct to MM in Florida and did the deal. They were very helpful and bent over backwards, but they do run on the 'big corporate model' regarding delivery, so you will usually have to wait until their system grinds through the process - what I'm saying is, they don't/can't react quickly if you want one in a hurry. Ex their door though, different story - I had the winch in 6 days!
Be aware though that the apparent saving isn't really there as you need to factor in the exchange rate, freight internal USA,freight ex USA, customs clearance, customs duty, GST, local aust freight ex Sydney as this where it arrives. Believe me, it adds up fast and significantly.

My initial plan is to stick in some pneumatics and switch it in and out from the dash or add something on the controller, but that is a larger project and I haven't had a chance to start that.
But I don't think this issue it specific to these winches, the design of the ARB bar I have has no access anyway. Which suggests that ARB didn't consider that their customers where actually going to use the winches?

I have a MM in my factory GU nissan bar. It has the removable plate in the top of the bar which usaly houses the warn cantrol box, i i can rear my leavers thru there.
I see the chinese winches also come in 2 speed. that is beter than the ones that were for sale on ebay as they were only single speed that i seen.

A high flow pump will help but if you what good speed change the motor on the winch and run a good amount of pressure and it will still pull hard. I have a milemarker H12. The pump is ran off a pto box on the gear box and i have a different motor on the winch. I normaly use the winch in low gear as you loss to much pulling power in high. In low it will pull at about 80 to 85 foot a minute and with a pulling force off about 10500 pounds. you find a elec winch that will do that. you can buy what is called the R type H12 from 4x4winches but they are pricey. if you type R type winch in to google there are vids on you tube of them. based my setup on them and I am very happy with my winch.

I just found a seller on ebay UK, that sells Clutch pumps and mechanical reversing clutches. I like the mechanical clutch.!! They have 3 models rated to heaps of power. 30Kw, 40Kw or 60Kilowatts.
