LPG CONVERSION FOR 2002 4500 AUTO HUNDRED SERIES - IDEAS ?
Howdy fellow hundred series cruiser owners. I have a 4500 auto (2002) and am keen to get an LPG conversion, Im interested in feedback, the good, the bad and the ugly. Any experience/feedback will be much appreciated.
A normal gas set up is cheap as chips. But after they tune it, it has to come back a few more times to be retuned as pressures change etc and you run the risk of a backfire which will distroy the airflow metre and they arent cheap. So just pay the extra for gas injection. I get mine back on friday. 110 litre tank/ 90 litre usable. All reports ive been getting 600k's per tank. Not bad for $40. Its currently costing me $85 to do 450 at best.
We just got ours back (2002 4.5 105 - non injection) last sat - taking it up to newy this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. Power difference so far isn't really noticeable, haven't driven it far enough to get milage comparison.
We opted for the twin scuba tanks under the sills. This way we could keep the spare underneath, and the petty sub tank as well. The usable litres is only about 65-70 (not sure exactly as we haven't filled it up since conversion). The twin tanks sit a little low, but we're probably gonna go 4" lift, so this will keep them out of harms way for all the wheelin this car will do.
600ks per (90L) tank is awesome - our 80 series 4.5L manual gets 300-320 from 85L of lpg consistently. The best we've ever had was 420 which was all highway/freeway driving, unloaded, only done this a few times. If you can get that then injection is worth the money.
I should have some better figures after the weekend.
Cheers
Rob

EWWW 300 - 320k's from 85 litres of lpg from a manual doesnt sound good at all. On petrol mine gets better than that. Even without injection/computer it should get more if not the same.
But everything is sooo much easier with lpg injection. Its pretty much the difference between a carbie engine and fuel injection.

Yeah - not good. Had massive dramas with the kit on the 80 - long story - the gas fitter was dodgy, used the wrong size converter (it wasn't sposed to run anything bigger than 3.8 V6) among many many other issues.TheBigBoy wrote:EWWW 300 - 320k's from 85 litres of lpg from a manual doesnt sound good at all. We used to get 500-550kms from the main petty tank alone - about 75L i think it is.
When you work it out it's not a knock you flat on your bum fuel saving, but it's still a little cheaper.
I want to do the same comparison with the 100 - run a few full tanks of petty through, then full tanks of gas and see what kms i get from both, work out how much cheaper it is to run.
