up travel with spoa
up travel with spoa
ok i recently did a spoa and many ppl convinced me to run standard flat springs. the question i have is the springs are flat when car is sitting normal, when i flex it up naturally the springs are going to invert on the compression side. now i have been told that it is bad for my springs to invert. so how do i have any up travel with flat springs. do i bump stop all my up travel out or what?
my shocks restrict it at the moment with down travel, and bottom out for up travel
thanks

let those suckers bend!!! =)
mine invert about half as much as they droop on articulation... limited with bump stops to stop excessive tyre scrub (still rubs on the headlight buckets if the wheels arent turned).
my leaves are 1.5 years old now (hilux leaves running with load leaf removed, so theyre almost flat). the fronts are only just showing signs of warping - but thats casused by tramp and wrap in the front (its going S shaped)... my leaves are yet to sag downwards.

The worst thing about censorship is ███████.
i am also spoa and have fla springs. my springs only invert 1.5inch from bumpstop to chasie. this will make the spring last longer as they dont invert much. if you do a search you wll find a thread on it. think i might be called no flex after RUF or somthing around that date

springs DO know which way they are bending, and correct bumpstop placement is critical.weaves wrote:Hey chris,
springs don't know what way your bending them. they are just springs.
i can get my rears (2" lifted OME ones) to invert on full flex.
actually come out sunday and i'll show you.
but i'm with alien, JUST FLEX IT!

i wasn't actually serious and i do understand the process and forces that leaf springs are meant to combat.joeblow wrote:springs DO know which way they are bending, and correct bumpstop placement is critical.weaves wrote:Hey chris,

But in Mcwilly's case. Having watched him flex his car almost to full copacity i can honestly say that the 1 - 1.5" of inversion his spring packs where having isn't anything he should be hugely concerned about based entirely around the fact that the car hasn't and probably won't be wheeled hard till he gets 1. his track bar and 2. his mazda back on the road.
i should have been a little more clear with what i meant joe.
