falcon rear springs in a lux
i own a 83 hilux and was going to go ifs rear springs but i heard that you can go falcon rears aswell.
so i was wondering what works better the ifs rears or falcons.
the falcon springs would be alot cheaper than the ifs rears aswell.
is there anything to modify on the lux to get them to fit.
also what model falcon is best to use.
cheers..smiley..

haha, falcon springs wont be cheaper at all, falcon springs will work better.
Before making a statement, a bit of research would have showed you they are no comparison, in articulation and load carrying and a rear shaft will probly be needed as they are alot longer than ifs springs and the centre pin wil be further back, saying that falcon springs won't be cheaper.
They need to be made 50mm wide, falcon springs are wider standard, or make custom shackles, and front hanger spacers, also shackle mounts need to be moved for falcon springs to work.
Ifs springs are $100 bucks for a set plus some extended shackles and bush's.

Why would falcon springs be more expensive? They are everywhere! I found 2 wagons with 60mm wide rear springs at the tip last time I looked. While I was down there I found a Ford raider I think with very thin leaves 60mm wide leaves which should flex up very well but not sure on the length for a lux.

I had ED falcon springs in my hilux years ago. They work great, However you need to have new main leaves made with the centre pin in the right spot, Ypou then need to re-drill the hole in the rest of the leaves. You can then grind down the ends of the main leaf to fit into the hilux shackle and mounts. You will need to do a u-bolt flip at the same time cause the springs won't fit the hilux u-bolts.
You will need to move the front spring mount forward around 200mm from memory.
They are alot more work, but also work alot better

as killalux said that is why they are more expensive, They don't just bolt in with some shackles, as i said the falcon springs are better for articultion, i rate ifs as pretty avergae for articulation, i run the ifs leaves and will be changing them when i work out what i want to use.killalux wrote:I had ED falcon springs in my hilux years ago.
