hi Dan,

Its a solid front axle. Ive been told the ring and pinion needs replacing plus there is a lot of diff oil leaking from behind the front right hand side wheel. I was told I could drive it in 2wd only. A short time after a bad vibration occurred when I when I take my foot off the accellerator. So as long as I can accellerate there is no vibration if you know what I mean.

Thanks

is the vibration when it is in 4wd??
and the leaking oil is just a hub seal, easy fix... saying that, mine leaks on that hub only on full lock.
so does it clunk when your driving it?
Cheers

hi there,

No the vibration is in two wheel drive. I havent had it in 4wd since i was told there was a problem.

Not sure actually if it would still go into 4wd or not.

hey mate,
best thing to do is to take the diff centre out yourself, hilux centres arent heavy about 20kg.
From that you can see yourself if there is broken teeth or if there is something else wrong with it. You can also change the hub seal while your there to stop the oil leak. Also check your bearings while your there, it may also happen under acceleration you just may not hear it as much as when you decelerate.
Also saves you labour cost taking it out yourself, and you may be able to put a 2nd hand diff centre in from a wrecker, they give warranty and this would be much cheaper.
All you need is: diff oil, brake fluid, car stands, gasket glue, bearing grease, socket set and some circlip pliers.
Cheers

Or go see Chris or Ben at HiTech 4X4 on Coombes Dr (Penrith)

I was there Friday and Ben was spending the day building diffs and fitting lockers ;)
