Mq sd33 conversion to V8.... Wiring q's?

Can anyone shed any light on this... I bought a 2nd hand Marks kit off ebay minus loom... Do you just adapt looms and custom wire it or is there a loom available????

Being a carbied engine there is not really a harness needed. Will just be a custom wiring job. Only need to wire up coil, alt, starter, and gauges

Yeah i thought so... Running all aftermarket gauges which are capillary type so just basic wiring.... sounds like fun

A carby 308 should be really, really easy. And, V8 no different to any other size engine of the same vintage, so if you want to use original colour wiring to keep things neat and easier to fix later, you could just pinch a loom from an old holden at a pick-a-part type place.

I found some HQ wiring diagrams here, I would think they should do you. You probably only need http://gallery.oldholden.com/d/269352-1/01a.jpg

A lot of that is not needed if you use a more modern alternator, too.

you can buy the engine looms off ebay bout 60 bucks from memory used one when i did up my old one tonner easy as.
you could then just splice it in to the vehicle.
chase up a higher amp alt too as the 55amp stocker wont be much good if you have a few lights etc

Yeah thanks guys...i just spoke to my unc he's an auto elec he told me to run a stand alone wiring loom for it and to use all new wiring.... makes sence dont have to far to look when chasing wiring faults... He also said about running two vn V6 alternators as they are rated at 85 amp... one for main wiring and one for lights... any thoughts???

Those ebay looms look like a worthwhile timesaver for the money.

My only comment is that there's a bit of work involved in installing two alternators and it might be more effort than its worth. A later Commo alternator could deliver anything up to 140A eg one out of a vt-vz v8. To me it would just be easier to get all the electricity out of one alternator, that means one belt, one set of wires, etc.
