Lincon welders are great we had the 170t for 4 years and never had a problem with it now we have upgraded to a 250 lincon. The parts back up on a lincon are really good.

The reps showed us this one. That looks like it'd be an awesome little welder with all the grunt for the home. Its also got a handset spooler if you want to mig up Al. I was very impressed.

Yeah, tis confusing. On the website specs it states 30% duty cycle tested at 200A @ 40 degrees celsius for mig. 182 is just the model number and the nominal amps for all three modes?.
Tested it at full steam (mig) when it arrived and blew through a piece of 8mm scrap plate easily enough when I slowed the travel down. That was with 0.9mm solid wire & gas.
Welds 4mm rods with ease in stick mode, 6mm rods would be the max.

Havent tried the tig out yet because the Weldmaster Tig Torch Kit didnt come with any collet, insulator, back cap etc and was an extra $350 for the kit. What a ShortyIQ rip! (The arguement continues with them. They told me to take it up with the reseller

It only takes 1kg - 5 kg rolls of wire too so be prepared for the great welding wire rip off when it comes to small spools. I'll be spooling my 15kg ones onto the 5kg when its run out though.
Reason I got it is because it does mig, tig & arc in one machine, and its grunty and light enough (25kg with a 5kg roll in) to cart around when required on sites, and with ease to do the welding that I do.

One thing I had to do was take the cover off and tighten the wire spool spindle bolt inside the machine (not tightened in factory!!!) because the spool turned the spindle bolt out as I welded and tightened up the spool = no wire feed. Once done I was able to adjust the spool tension like normal, all good now.

Was $1250 plus $350 for the tig kit so $1600 all up. Got it from Drews in Naracoorte.[/quote]

I have a Jasic MIG 165 actually a UNIMIG (exactly the same thing) they are on ebay for good prices and I think they are great.

Supagas were the best on price I found for GAS, and they sell consumables at better prices too.

was looking at the same unit the other week as it can run off a 10amp house supply (i think) I would have bought it if I found anywhere that sold it at this sort of prices (I needed it in a hurry).

In the end I just got a el cheapo 140amp arc welder (10amp supply as I dont have any 15amp supplys at home!) as my welding experience consists of no more than 1hr and that was 10yrs ago now!!! it did the small job that I needed tho so all is good.......was fun actually so am looking to weld anything now for the practice

Thats pretty cheap, im selling these for $515inc. And have sold heaps of them with no returns. They are a great little machine.

Just went to the local wleding supply sotre and they currently have these on special for $480 inc GST, or the one with the tig attatchment for $900. Not looking at that one tho.

Any idea what thickness this would weld, min to max?

Would there be a reason to look at a gasless mig instead?

Not really, they have to show you the non GST price and then show you the GST price and then show what the GST amount is.

Only showing the GST price is wrong I think as they arn't showing what the real price is.

I use one of the cigweld weldskill arc units at work and liked it so much I bought the 130amp kit for home.
Love it.

Couple it with some tc16 rods and its idiot proof. I've done sheet down to 1.2mm with it. Not many arc's will let you do that reliably.
Penetration is decent in 6mm plate.
At work I usually reach for this arc before the fronius mig.


Just about to invest in the tig kit to do a mild steel snorkel and stainless intercooler piping.

Not bad as a stick welder pretty average as a TIG. We got 2 at work to toss around for stick field work. Great for that but I've used one for TIG a couple of times when one of our TIGs was out of action and it was pretty ordinary and not nice to use. Sure we picked them up on special at Blackwoods for under $400.

a gasless mig might be handy for doing sheet work if that is ever needed, but its only a possibility, definately need some sliders!!

I have the 180c at home and love it, also have a 180 lincoln invertec arc/tig welder. great units if its thick stuff and you can weld get arc no gas with skill you can do thin stuff, cheaper to run, portable ect

They work great can push a 4mm rod all day. Till they go bang which a lot did where i was working. The rep seemed none to pleased and reckoned it was a dodgy batch. Could also have been the way some of idiots were using them too.
I would leave it a while before buying one so they can iron out the problems.

Interesting that you've had a few failures with the cigweld units. How long ago was this?
I work on the water on ships and dredging plant.
We use them 7 days a week on all sorts of abusive tasks and have yet to have anything other than a rod handpiece need replacing.
Welding heavy plate, hardfacing excavator buckets, deck and hull structural welding etc.

They all failed in the last two months. Sometime within a week of purchase.
