Convert Fj to BJ

Post by Da Krusha »

G'day.
Looking at buying a 40 but it's got a (filthy) petrol (4.2l 6cyl 2f) motor in it, and I wanna change it for either a
*3.0l 4cly B
*3.4l 4cyl 3b
*4.0l 6cyl 2H
...diesel motor.
Has anyone one done these comversions before? Any problems? Any suggestions as to which one (or a different motor). I'd prefer to mount it to the standerd 1980 4spd (i've got two spares), but i've also got a whole 60 series to pull bits off. Any suggestions/recomendations/beer would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I converted my 1983 BJ42 to 2H power, it is a big job, and can be quite costly. I would not undertake that process again.

If you are after a diesel powered shorty, mine has 60 series power steering, 60 series gearbox and transfer case and 3" spring lift, with 2" body lift. 33" tyres on 16" rims and two-pac yellow paint. Flares on the rear, no rust, 8 point cage. Good condition seats. etc.

I am in Brisbane and want $5500.

Brendo,

If thats the red forty u picked up from me ur talking about...... It actually had a 253 V8 conversion in it with that gear box in the back. Ive got the motor at my place in the trailer from it and the converion kit is long gone..... My mate said that before the 253 was pulled out about 1 year ago it had been in for about 7 years.
Just try to shed some light on the situation.

Cheers,

Screwy

Brendo,

Are you sure you don't want to have a look at my '83 BJ42 LX, 5sp, P/Steer?. Still waiting for a call back......Otherwise I'll sell you a good 3B motor if you need one.
