33's on 2007 Hilux - what needs 2 be done
Has anyone fitted 33's on the new hilux and if so can you let me know what mods if any were required had a quick browse in the searh but didnt see anything model specific. This one already has 2" susp. lift
So we should be selling our rigs and forget about any mods whatsover, stuff that if a guy wants 33"s so it be, i am not dismissing the fact but we have a choice in what we do, legally or illegally, what, are the po-po gunna start impounding hiluxes with 31"s and 2 inch lift?grimbo wrote:have you not been paying attention to any of the numerous threads about how that setup will be illegal in less than two weeks?
pretty much anything we do to our 4wds is illegal, unless they stick out past the guards you would have to be very unlucky to get done for themgrimbo wrote:have you not been paying attention to any of the numerous threads about how that setup will be illegal in less than two weeks?
seirra, ute chop, air locked 60 series diffs, 4-link rear, 3 link front, 35's,18" fox air shoxs, h.i.d's, 6hp high mount,
thats the kind of attitude why laws are changing against us..superslowlux wrote:So we should be selling our rigs and forget about any mods whatsover, stuff that if a guy wants 33"s so it begrimbo wrote:have you not been paying attention to any of the numerous threads about how that setup will be illegal in less than two weeks?
um, maybe we should be modding them legally. Wow what a crazy idea. Or maybe getting mods done that could be illegal in 2 weeks isn't a smart move. Advising people to do illegal mods is pretty piss poor effort. So you reckon it's cool to tell him to just do what you like because its all just silly. And then when his vehicle gets defected and he has to fork out money to get his vehicle changed back to a legal setup what good was your stupid advice?superslowlux wrote:So we should be selling our rigs and forget about any mods whatsover, stuff that if a guy wants 33"s so it be, i am not dismissing the fact but we have a choice in what we do, legally or illegally, what, are the po-po gunna start impounding hiluxes with 31"s and 2 inch lift?grimbo wrote:have you not been paying attention to any of the numerous threads about how that setup will be illegal in less than two weeks?

brentz
TUF-60 starting build soon

the serious car modifiers actually do it properly and do their mods within the laws. The slack ones just do what they like regardless of the law hence why all this rubbish is happening in NSW at the momentbrentz wrote:since when have car modifiers that are serious cared bout waht little piggy is gonna say?

Gee sorry guys didnt want to start an argument, but in the end I wasnt really asking if it was going to be legal in the future (no offence and advice was appreciated)
The question most people should be concerned about is that any mod done to any vehicle is done in a way that is safe and puts no one at risk. I mean hell in NSW any increase from manufacturer specs in wheel track of over 25mm in either direction with a total of no more than 50mm is illegal so there is 40% of enthusiasts cars off the road right now before any laws are changed and thats just one example how many rigs are running those illegal wheel spacers. The new laws will make a lot of mods illegal unless engineered and as yet no one has asked if engineering is being considered.
My question still remains to be answered properly ( one bloke had a go) will they just bolt under a 2" lift or is it that offset rims have to be purchased or extra lift or body lift or re-shaped guards.
Anyway please no one take any offence to this post and I appreciate the concerns and take note of all the comments but Hey I wasmjust asking a question.
Thanks guys.

Have a look around http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/ and ask your questions there if you get no luck on Outers.
It may come down to wheel choice as much as lift and bumpstops but there's plenty of good info on there to point you in the right direction.

I'm not very good looking, so I guess I better be useful . . .
I didn't think of these before, but i'd say you'll need to do both of these, PLUS the previously mentioned mods as well.howesy wrote:will they just bolt under a 2" lift or is it that offset rims have to be purchased or extra lift or body lift or re-shaped guards.
Call me a pussy, but if i had a new-er 4x4, the last thing i'd do to it would be a body lift. I'm anti-body lift. There's a few threads on here stating good reasons why not too.
Is there any reason you have to run 33's, or would something a bit smaller suffice?
I have an 07 and have run 33's since the first week I had her.
you will need a 2.75 to 3" suspension lift. you will need 16x8's with zero offset to keep the tyre off the outer edge of the Upper Control arm, you will need to remove your mudflaps, trim the lower bottom corner of the flare/quarter panel and bend it back.....you will need to trim the plastic inner guard liner at the rear and pin it back.....you will need to bash the pinchweld back a little.
if you are using an ARB bar, you will need to ned up and out of the way the side wing splash guard a good 3" to clear for when suspension is under compression.
not impossible, can be done.....my silverstones in 285/75x16 measure 33/12x16 and I have just enough clearance under full compression with the wheel turned.
Heres a pic of the rear trimmed -
and the bullbar mod -
and the rig herself -
if you have less lift, your other option is to get a set of 16x7 wheels with a +20 offset and run 255/85x16's...which equate to 33.3x10.2x16
tall and narrow, but should keep your rubbing to a minimum.
important not to forget when you get a wheel alignment, ask the technician to put in as much castor as possible within factory specifications......this will move your axle position slightly forward, but may be enough to keep the tyre off the bodymount at the rear of the front guards....
I myself will be going 34/10.5x16 simex or swamper at some stage in the future....these will "just" fit with some more mods.....
hope that helps....
