sierra with no front drive
sierra with no front drive
Gday all,
A friend of mine has a sierra, when she puts it into 4x4, the light comes on but no power is applied to the front diff....Has anyone had this problem before?
I am only fairly new to the 4x4 side of things, but would this most likely be the transfer case???
Cheers
John

It's most likely to be the hubs not engaging. Sierra transfer cases are pretty reliable- if the lever moves cleanly into the 4WD position, there's unlikely to be anything wrong with the case. (or diff - mostly they are rusty from never having been in 4WD - certainly not broken)
hubs, though, will seize up from under use/ no maintenance, or fail to engage due to faulty reassembly after service. It's not always possible to tell that the problem is in the hub because it still feels like it moves properly from free to lock.
99% it's the hubs.
Steve.
