uuummm what is it i am assuming a 40ser
if so you have probs but it can be overcome
need proof of where the body and chassis and engine came from
not just who you got it from but before him and so on till you find
who swapped it all around
then get a safty certificate for it,they will notify you that it needs to get a surrogate vin
then front to dot and they will fill out some paperwork
then go to police station near where you live and they will check the numbers and proof of ownership
then back to dot after number has been stamped above the original
anf get it regoed easy hey

or get another wreck with all new numbers and change it all over to it not exactly legal but you get my point

Are you saying the mod plates dont match the Vin # on the compliance plate and Chassie? But the Compliance plate and chassie has Matching numbers? If so i would say someone has done an engine conversion on your newly perchased vehicle and has taken those mod plates off another vehicle and fitted them to it. Prob to avoid the extra cost of the V8 rego and the cost of getting it mod plated.

The chassis number if it is still visable will be on the RH front outside edge of the chassis. Its in the section that extends out past the body. Its common for the bullbar to cover this number.

But as long as the numbers on the Mod plates match the numbers on the Toyota Compliance plate your not going to have an issue registering it. That is as long as the chassis number matches as well.

1975 40 series still had drum brakes all round and hand brake on the transfer. I dont think the disc front came in till after 1982.

Nothing other than a build number as far as i know. But if your reply above wasnt a missprint and the only difference between the numbers you have is that one has a 2 and the other has a 3 i imagine that the mod plater farked up when he engraved the plates.
