Not knowing what brand and type of controller you bought ill assume its a T style bleed valve either way, on the side of your turbo you'll have the actiator (usually gold thing with a rod) coming off this will be a small black hose, where it goes is not so important but this is the line you tap.

a mate of mine has turbo'd his 75 series and put a "T" piece in the line described above with a holley main jet no 73 in it sounds rough but it gives him an even 9 pounds of boost all day everyday

Mine is a 1997 2.8TD but only has 100,000k on the clock. It is running factory boost settings at it is max 10PSIG, meaning 10psi on the gauge. It runs fine at this setting. Why is your running at 6psi? Maybe wear? If so, purhaps you are taking a risk by boosting the pressure if other issues need to be addressed first?
