hilux and bundy R series box question

Post by hiluxmad »

are the bolt patterns between the 4runner and bundy R series gear boxes.
this is referring to where the bellhousing bolts to the gearbox
ive got one from a 4runner and it wont fit the bellhousing ive got do i have the wrong box?

Not quite sure what you mean? Had a look at your old thread. Think the R series 4 runner box you've got wont fit the bell housing (marks 4wd bell housing?) and it would not fit the G52 box. marks used to make a bellhousing to suit a diahatsu gearbox (heavy duty from truck) I came across one when i was looking for a dyna (had old marks casting on bellhousing). Sorry if i got all that confused!

Sounds like it as the only 4Runner with an R series box is the V6, all others are G52 so unless you brought a V6 box or bellhousing then you have the wrong one :D

Surf turbo diesels also have the R series in either R150 or R151 configuration, ie different 1st gear ratios.

bell housing ive got is a marks adaptors kit one but doesnt fit g52 or the v6 4runner box (r150f i have been told) apparently the dyna(truck box) is the same as the r series but marks (bloke on phone not mark himself) said that the bundy box (r series) has a different bolt pattern to the hilux seems odd to me to have 2 different bolt patterns on same series of box
looked on ebaty and the like and it would seem to have a supra pattern but marks have said that they dont do them and never have

To fit what ? Dyna or Bundy ? and what engine do you want to mate to it.

said that the bundy box (r series) has a different bolt pattern to the hilux seems odd to me to have 2 different bolt patterns on same series of box

Agreed seems odd an R series is an R series.

Can't say I've ever seen one but I understand the deisel version has an r series. I have seen them with the smaller G52 trans :D

Correct Diesel is R series. Petrol is G series.

It should have a part number on it if it is a Marks adapter. Have you got a pic of it?

My Dellow housing originally had the early 5 speed LN65 box, I've now got the later box in it, the only difference as far as they bolt up is one bolt isn't used on one of the boxes, can't remember which though now

Pprobably a G52 bell and I wouldn't try to modify it to fit an R series as they are completely different.

Marks sell an adapter to go onto a G52 bell to then fit an R series using this bell.

what was the bell housing out of?

could be for old 4 speed box or the old cast iron 5 speed (rn 46)

i have a dellow 2jz bellhousing > r series in my truck and i ordered it as if it were for hilux / bundy the only diff is the input shaft length not the patern
the supra r series had a longer input shaft for the "pull" clutch

Its not a Cast Iron 4 spd or RN46(petrol). They are More Square and only use 4 bolts on aftermarket bellhousings. And the LN46(diesel) bellhousing is a totally different animal that is more of a spacer looking adapter than a bellhousing.

Although i agrea the cut out doesnt look perfect for a G52(its slightly different at the LH Top) all the bolt holes appear to be in the right place by that picture.

The bellhousing has no other markings other than "Marks 4wd" on it?
