Hey a guy at work picked up a 97 coil sprung zook for the right price went over cleamed it up took it for a drive and when you hit 80kmh it shakes a little as you slow down it becomes unbearable. Now whats been done it's stock height no play in any front end componets the raduis arm bushes looked like they'd been moving a little so we fitted some nolathane ones to it which are castor adjustable ones, The castor is just a little more than spec and it still shaking anyone know where to go next. Maybe a RTC dampener?

i went through everything in my sj80 just recently, ended up giving it toe out.
but before i did that,
wheel bearings tensioned
both tie rod ends on the drag link
steering shaft uni
steering damper
corrected castor
checked king pins
tightened and cleaned swivel hub wipers
checked control arm bushes
pretty much everything and none of it changed it other that giving it toe out instead of toe in.

It wouldn't be rotors as it's shaking long before brakes are applied and even if you slow down without using them it still does it.Ridge wrote:search "death wobble"
also check your front disks are not warped
if your still having problems take it for a wheel alignment
We have wheel alingment machine at work and ballancer we've checked all that and played with various amount of toe in from max of the spec to 0mm toe but we'll try some toe out on it.

Not familiar with the coily Sierras but i'd imagine they'd be rather similar to the Jimnys in terms of suspension set up.
Have a Jim and the main cause of the Jimny death wobble is a rooted front panhard bush. I couldn't even see mine were cracked until i swapped them out.
No more wobblies after that.

i'm going through this problem right now. i got a wheel alignment today and went up to 70 to check.. it was even worse. i lost a wheel weight the other day so i'm going to try a wheel balance too then all the other suggestions. sic lux, post when your mate fixes it if you can, that'll be sweet, i want to fix it asap, it scares the crap out've me every time!
You dont have to be using the brakes to feel the wobbles that they can cause. Even if it is slightly warped it will rub on the brake pads.
When it was happening with mine, it would happen at about 50 to 80ks and get worse when on the brakes.
Is it really bad when the car has not been driving for long time, 5mins or so?

Sounds like my wobbles. Go ahead, try replacing the panhard bush. it's a cheap change. Pull a shim from the top of the king pins then retighten go fo a drive and see if it makes a difference. It wont completely remove the shakes but you should be able to tell a difference. If it does, then do a full swivel housing rebuild. Easy enough to do. but dont be cheap... replace all seals and bearing with new stuff.
The steering damper wont eliminate the problem it will just mask it for a while until it gets real bad.
