1HZ turbo wont run longer than a few hundred metres
So finally finished building my new motor got it started all good idled like a champ then went for a quick spin around the block n it died on me like it had no fuel. got out couldn't see any leaks or nothing strange pumped the primer n she fired after a bit. went another 200m n it did it again. did this again to get home.
since then replaced fuel filter, check all fitting no air leaks or anything, has plenty of fuel rite at the pump after it stops. take the hose at the pump off and it squirts out every. took the return line from the injects n no fuel there.
When it has fuel up it it goes good not a drama but then a bit down the road it dies.
before putting it all together i had the pump tested and the injectors done up.
so I'm stumped to what it is or what to start pulling apart to look at.

try cleaning out your fuel tank it might have a bit of crap sticking to the pickup get an air compressor to the fuel line before the primer and blow the line out
hope this helps

The pickup is covered in a plastic filter. It's unlikely to block up but I agree with the idea of blowing it back just to make sure. Then you have fun pumping fuel up from the tank again.
Have you screwed down your primer pump properly, it might be drawing air if not screwed down.
Is there a little cover stuck somewhere - those things that are used to cover fuel lines on rebuilt gear?
Will it idle and run at speed in your shed? ie is it only under load that it faults, or is it a time issue that could be replicated in your shed?

yeah ill be blowing out the lines tomorrow, cant see any covers on it anywhere, every thing looks normal, it will idle only if i have pumped the primer up to rock hard and will drive normally untill it runs out of feul.
yeah its got me stumped ey, gunna talk to the bloke that did the pump and the injectors to see what he reckons but will try blowing the lines out first. i took it for a drive this arve n it seems be getting better slightly, i can drive it for a bit longer before it starts to die on me, maybe twice as longer than before. but u soon get sick of pumping the primer every bloody few hundred metres.
towards the end of the drive it started to die once again but i held it about half n it dropped back to just idle and crawled along but sounded really rough but eventualy died.

Are you starving it of fuel when under load?
The 1HZ N/A have a 10mm diam. fuel line from tank to engine, the factory turbos (eg: 1HDFTE) have a 12mm diam. fuel line.
When turbo'ing an N/A, especially if it was tuned up a bit at the same time, the smaller diam. fuel line often has enough capability to flow at idle/light revs, but increase the revs and the engine will starve.
To check if this is a contributing factor: in your shed, rev it up for a while (30 sec to a min should be enough) to see if it starves out.
If it does you've got two options, upgrade the line size, or install a low pressure pusher pump (eg: 10psi walbro - check my build thread if you need specs).
When I did my 1HDFT install into my 70 series i had this problem, engine would idle fine but starved out when revved (even lightly).
Not sure if its the same case for you but a quick check as discussed will tell you.
All the best.

thanks for all the input guys
i have blown all the hoses out with air backwards. i bypassed all the lines n filter by running the motor straight out of a jerry can directly into the pump. it ran fine so. i put it back together and there was air cumming out with the fuel in the return line so it has to be sucking air from somewhere. this seems weird as it was fine with the last motor but im going to replace all the lines to the tank n go from there, just glad it wasnt the pump.
cheers

re fuel starving
I had much the same problem after servicing mine rang racq break down turned out to be the fuel primer changed it out the next day all good straight away.

since finding it was sucking air i tested the the filter set up by feeding it feul before and after it and it ran fine when it was bypassed. So i went to get another primer pump but could only get a second hand one that was off a 79 series so it was a bit newer. got it started with it on and had no air in the return line so went for a drive and got about 4ks out and died on me again. tested it again and its the fuel filter letting in air.
So is it my car some how wrecking these primers or was i unlucky to get a second hand one that was about to die?
is it even possibly to bugger these seals in the primer or do they just go with time?

hey mate i had a similar problem on my 2.8td rodeo when i replaced the fuel filter n shit it idled fine nd then went to drive out the driveway nd it died nd only stayed at idle speed nd then died shortly after it turned out to be i tiny bit of shit (plastic et.c) unde the one way valve in the fuel pump nd was stoping it closingit was about 2mmx 2mm very annoying... hope this helps

Are you using the std filter with water sensor? If so maybe the "O" ring on the sensor isnt sealing 100% and allows air to be drawn in there. Could be similar to a radiator prob I once saw, it wouldnt leak water but when it cooled it would suck air back in past the hose instead of from the overflow air being less dense and easier to suck.
Its a real long shot but take the sensor out and wipe the tinyest bit of petroleum jelly around the seal before you put it back in and tighten it up.
