Noel,
I was part of the snake racing one but it started to get those crapy pop-ups. i have a mate who is just as keen on the stuff he has an MQ patrol he showed me the site and finally i have found some other Jacka drives. I kept in contact with that Dave guy who had the jacka with 35's because i had alot of questions to ask him but he has moved onto bigger and better (??????? Nissan?????) things.
I rate your car, thats the next step for me i have a few places where i have to get mine and maybe an overseas trip than i am saving. i am sick of the wagon need a SWB V6. Any down sides to them???? i know with the early model like mine the engine and position of things is pretty crapy. i am soooo sick of working on it because of the design of the engine bay. For instants the weak head on them, the last one i took off had 10 cracks in it. how u do that i dont know??????
Cheers,
Greazy
p.s good to see u enjoy the liquid gold as well (bourbon)

SWB V6 Jackaroo.
Greazy,
If your thinking of upgrading to the swb V6, I couldnt argue much against it cause I rate it also. Had it for over 3 years now and no major problems. Had to replace the clutch after about 110k but thats pretty normal for most fourbies especially one thats 10 yo. Other than that its the d**n location of the alternator which is poorly located right at the bottom. I have had to fix the alternator and bearings a few times because of this. Dont know if yours has the same design. The engine is fairly hard to work on as its all quite compact.
As for the engine itself, I haven't heard of too many consistent problems with them. The V6's tend to last a while if looked after, but they can get a little noisy after a while with tappet noise. 153,000 km on her now and going strong... As for your cracked head, maybe its a good sign that it was still running after the 9th crack.
As for aftermarket gear, everything that fits the lwb will fit the shorty except for stuff like LR tanks, sidesteps etc. These have to be custom jobs.
Ofcourse, as with any swb vehicle you have to put up with the obvious drawbacks with less space and a rougher ride offroad but its worth it because of the extra maneuvrability and just the fun factor...

Noel,
Yeh got the same problem with the alternator. I have just had it rebuilt. I also hate where my distributor is. It gets wet very easily and i cant stand it when u are 3/4 through a puddle and u are runnin on like 1 or 2 cycl, very scary at times. Any secrets???? (except shitloads of WD40)
Do your 32's rub at all??? i have 31's on mine and they only hit when i have my steerin wheel fully turned. i wanted the 33's but power ratio wasnt in my favour so i settled for the smaller verison. still not complaining though.
cheers,
Greazy

Gday Greazy,
I have no trouble with the distributor as mine is up the top about as high as it can be and tend to be pretty water resistant.
I do have a tip for yours. It may sound a bit funny, but it works.
If yours is the round five lead variety, find a kitchen glove and cut small holes in the end of each finger, put each lead through a finger, reconnect the leads to the distributor and stretch the rest of the glove over the distributor. It should make a reasonably tight seal. A mate of mine used to do this to his little Daihatsu F10 if he new that the trip had water crossings. Simple but effective. 8)
My 32's do rub a bit but only because the offset of the rims bring the tyre out to the same distance as the guards. Therefor they rub a bit with upward travel. I like the stance of the Jack at the mo' with the wider track, so dont want to change rims. I want to put in a 2" body lift later on which should cure it. I may have to anyway if I get a front swaybar quick-disconnect which should allow even more travel... Rear doesnt rub at all.
HTH,
Noel
