ARB locker for 9" 40 spline

Post by bru21 »

Can you get an airlocker to suit 40 spline axles with a 9" centre.

I believe the carrier bearings are diferent to the 35 spline - so not sure its as simple as side gears.

I would like it instead of the spool as I can use it on the street, without the hassle / disadvantage of removing an axle.

thanks

not to my knowledge. According to Daniel from ARB's posts on pirate they are currently tooling up to do 40 spline, but I would think it would be for the 14 bolt diffs, not the 9 inches.

There is also known weaknesses with the use of an ARB in a 9 inch - plenty of info re this on pirate.

For my KOH buggy we have pulled the front spool out and put a 35 spline ARB in for the Vegas to Reno race. I am not convinced I will run the ARB in KOH, I may put the spool back in. The rear is 40 spool.

Have you actually purchased your rear housing yet? What about looking at the new custom 14 bolt housings, like what Dave Cole is using in his new racer. I will be interested to see how it performs next week.

AFAIK NO, but you can surely get the 31 or 35-spline EDM'd to 40-spline.

e.g. Jacmac does rover ARBs side gears for a couple of hundred $$$

Alternately email daniel bongard on here and see if there is anything under development.

This seems to be what is available:

Ford 9-inch Axle - Nine-Inch, Nailed Part I
Here's a cross section of available differentials. Clockwise from 12 o'clock: Detroit Locker, ARB Air Locker, 40-spline spool, mini-spool, Trophy Truck spool, stock open differential, Detroit Truetrac, and Ford Trac-Lok. The mini-spool installs into a stock open differential and replaces the side gears. To run the Trophy Truck spool, you'll also need a Trophy Truck-size axlehousing, axleshafts, gearcase, and T.T.-size full-floating hubs. The beauty of the 9-inch is that it can be used in a wide spectrum of vehicles on an equally wide spectrum of budgets.
