Has any one done the toyota live axle conversion using the trail tough conversion kit into a vitara? They mention using the diffs from toyota utes and mention the year range but they don't say what model. The model range would most likely not match up with the names down here anyway.
Does any one know what model and year toyota diffs will fit? also do they need to be 4wd or will 2wd be O.K. ?

toyota diffs in vitara
you will need 4 wheel drive diffs as 2 wheel drive diffs are different (and they dont have a front diff) and you are better off with the latest model of matching diffs (matching to get the ratios the same, latest model for stronger housings)

When the yanks say pick-up, they're talking about the solid axle hilux. I think they ran until mid 1996. As has been discussed on here before, lux axles are a little too narrow to be run under a vit. People have done it but generally 60s or 80s diffs would be better.
I'm not sure what you mean about "will 2wd be ok?", um no it won't, you usually need 2 diffs to be a 4wd. If you're talkijng about using the rear axle from a 2wd lux then I can't see a problem (EDIT:they're different!) but you're probably better off using a pair from one vehicle. It ensures you have matching ratios etc.
Not to be rude or presumptuous but are you sure you're up to this? This is some fairly basic stuff you're asking about a very involved conversion. I'd be doing a lot of searching and reading on here (look for builds by A1 and antt) and pirate before jumping in to this. The trail tough kit only gives you the parts, it doesn't weld them together or guarantee everything is in the right place for you, not to mention is designed for LHD so steering will have to be altered to suit. Just saying.

IFS rears are 3" wider than a standard lux front, so the spacers are 1.5" each side. Spacers mess up bearing real quick...
