How do i get an R series box behind a 3RZ?
Im contemplating building another 3rd gen hilux but i want to run a 3RZ with 38"- 40" tyres, 4.1 diff gears and at least 100-1 crawl ratio but not much more.
Now the only way i can get this with running the 4.1 diff gears is-
R series box with dyna internals giving me a 5.15:1 first gear,
Then an adapter to 2 gear driven transfer cases with stock 2.28:1 gears,
Then my 4.1:1 Final drive,
Which gives me 109.76:1 Crawl
Or a single 4.7 transfer giving me a 99.24:1 Crawl.
Im running the 4.1 diff ratio as i allready have a 4.1 ARB'd 35spline Dana 60 rear axle. So i will prob just run a 60 series front diff with 30 spline longs and a 4.1 ARB'd 80 series rear centre which i allready have also.
So i need to know how i get an R series box behind the 3RZ.

2006 and newer hilux (2tr??) 2wd bellhousing
It also depends on what model r series you have the older ones will bolt in but the bellhousing is to long, so the input shaft might have to be modified depending on what model box it is, possibly input shafts could be interchanged.
Alot of if's buts and maybes haha.

Anyone else ever heard this before? As changine the input shaft is not an option. I plan on using Dyna internals to get the 5.15 first gear and first gear is on the input shaft. I had never heard of the bellhousings changing length before.berad wrote:It also depends on what model r series you have the older ones will bolt in but the bellhousing is to long, so the input shaft might have to be modified depending on what model box it is, possibly input shafts could be interchanged.

Marlin Crawler makes a bellhousing for a 3RZ to R series box.

I have a 1998 2wd Hilux trayback with a 3RZ and it has a factory W58.
As far as fitting the R series to a G52/W series besides the Marlin bellhousing here ya go

I believe Marks were selling these adapters.

Thanks JD. I spoke to Marks a long time ago and they said they were no longer making them. But i did see today they are listed on there site.ozrunner wrote:Ruff

Are you selling these? If so how much?
Your prob right on the W series to. But externaly they look identical to the G series from what i have found. Im pretty sure ive also mixed and matched the internals.
from wat Ive read u can use a 06+ 2TR-FE lux bellhousing to match the 3RZ to R150,R151f's. The R154 supra box has a "32mm??" longer input shaft so a bellhousing spacer has to be made, the R series used in 4x4's shud match straight up as there input shaft is the shorter one, Im not sure about the dyna input shaft but it will either be one or the other so useable none the less.
If u find out definate info let us know as I will need to match my R151f to a 3RZ shortly also.
Cheers

Going by Marlins website it appears the later R series 4x4 box have the longer input shaft. If so the 2TR bellhousing may also suit the longer input.a1 mech wrote:from wat Ive read u can use a 06+ 2TR-FE lux bellhousing to match the 3RZ to R150,R151f's. If this is the case i prob have no choice if i want to get this ratio where i want it but to buy the bellhousing from Marlin. Im fairly certain that the Dyna box is the shorter shaft.
Yep, the later Hilux turbo 5 speeds use a R151 but I believe they have a longer imput shaft than the earlier R151, ie probably the same as used in the US Taco ?. Probably worth checking though.
The Dyna box has a short shaft same as the earlier R series as it is an R series, R452
I use an R154 in my 4Runner and Dellows made me a bell to suit the longer shaft.
Actually, I'd give Jeff at Dellows a call as they do make a variety of R series bells and could easily do a front 3RZ mould change. Jeff helped me out with mine in 2000 and did a special cast to suit the longer R154 with a Ford engine front bolt pattern no problems. Still using it

If that is the case then its got to be cheaper than the getting one custom made or getting a Marlin bellhousing.a1 mech wrote:u shud be able to use the 2TR bell and it wud b much cheaper im sure, If the dyna u wish to use has the short shaft then it will bolt straight up. blokes with the longer input shaft have a spacer made up for the bellhousing and use it without problems so it may be the cheaper alternative.
So the US must not have got the 2TR?
