Engine Options for my '90 sierra

Post by wickedstix »

hi guys

i've just picked myself up a '90 sierra and the 1.3 engine needs a bit of attention,

i'm thinkin should i just rebuild the 1.3 or upsize??????

i was wanting to put in the vitara 1600 like i had in my last sierra but want to know if that is going to be the best bang for buck?

i'm not after a street machine nor something built for highway speed just something with a good amount of torque for off road,

does anyone know of a small diesel that would fit?

any advise would be great

thanks

best bet would be to tell us how much you have to spend on it... cos theres tons of options, but some pretty different cost factors!

I went 1.6 bottom end, Jimny top end and vit injectorss with 4-2-1 extractors and get a bucket load of torque.

cheap, without changing gears (transfer i am guessing you mean),

is the 1.3 dead or usual rattle and smoke?

i would go the MPFI 1.6 vit motor but for the $$ being cheap see if u can pickup a swift motor and swap the bits over into your sierra and run smaller tyres to negotiate gearing.

I run 31s stock gearing and the mpfi 1.6, it is ample of power/torque and gearing for what i do. lower in low range be nice but it does it fine, but terrain dependant of course between states etc

yep its got the rattle and a little smoke,
what sort of mods do i need to do to swap over to the efi 1.6 vit motor?

or should i just keep with the 1.3 and give it a rebuild ?

and go for rock hopper gearing???
