gday - before some1 says: i have searched and havent been able to find out what im after.
i am looking at gettin some new spotlights. Probably lightforce or rally 4000's unless some1 has any other recommendations.
i am planning to eventually fit these out with hid kits and was interested to know if people had feedback/opinions on which lights (reflectors, lenses, etc) work the best with hid conversion.
i have had 240 blitz's in the past with light blue combo lenses and found them brilliant... and hav also hear great reports on the 4000's.

which spotlights are best (hid compatible)

Not going to vote because any of the three are good lights but will comment that the XGT seems to have a reputation of being slightly superior to the Blitz both in reflector quality and body construction. They can be harder to fit in a bullbar than the Blitz though due to their mounts and shape.
If you're going HID, go 35W or 55W 5000K. You won't need any lenses then - just run clear covers. Gives great 'natural' light that is comfortable to drive by all night long.
This is 2 x Lightforce 170 Strikers (55W 5000K HID) plus 2 x Lightforce 240 XGTs (55W 5000K HID). The photo doesn't show anywhere near the actual range of the lights but the light colour is pretty spot on.

I converted some old 240 Blitz with a 55w 6000k kit, Awesome. Next time, I would use a set off XGT's as the HID kits are all internal, where as mine have external ballasts with wires to run as well as modifiying the lamp holders as well. I would also use a 5000k globe next time as Moph said.

I have Four 240 Blitz and two 170's all converted to 55w 6000k HID's as well as 35w 6000k head lights Hi/low and love them after thay have been on for say 5 min thay are almost white. I have two 240's on the bull bar as spot beem and two 170's and two 240's on the roof on a air ram light bar ( GQ Tray Back ) with the four of them with combo Spred/Spot beem covers, this tends to work very well for four wheel driving. Just got to do the rest of the work lights on the rear to HID....Six in total .....Yes I'm Scared Of The Dark....

XGT's have a better mount that wont cause the lights to vibrate as much over corrugations and rough roads. Plus no scumbags can unsrew your lenses and take off with them which seems to happen a bit.
Re Moph's pics, one thing that annoyed the shite out of me was the light reflection through the sides of the lens covers. Apart from the fact the lights are great, the strain on my eyes caused by the reflective light was a pain.
i tried race taping them, but ended up messy looking. And a pain to remove if wanting to change covers etc.
Someone suggested on a forum somewhere going to a $2 shop and buying some stretchy black hairbands (sort of a cotton/lycra material).
hey presto, stretched them over the front of the light, held in place with some sticky velcro dots, and no more light feedback.

Having converted some 4000's I found that they are very small focus area, which means small very bright area's lit up.....I hate that. so i butchered the globes and pushed the arc further into the reflector, then I was happy with them. Not recommended though. the focus ability of the blitz would get my vote....
You'll get the globes/ballasts set up for about $170 (via group buy etc) and the alloy inserts to position the globes properly for about $40 from memory. Check on4tou on here.J.Dixon80 wrote:how much does it cost to do the hid conversion in a set of xgt's?
Bit over $200, well worth it if you do night driving. (of course, not worth it if ya dont i guess.)
